The Wolmi Sea Train is Korea's first urban sightseeing monorail, circling the area around Wolmido over a total operating distance of 6.1 km. According to the official information, one complete loop around Wolmido takes about 42 minutes, with an average operating speed of 10 km/h.
The train runs at heights ranging from 7 m above ground to a maximum of 18 m. From a single route, passengers can see not only Wolmido's scenery but also Incheon Inner Port, the West Sea, and even Incheon Bridge in the distance, making it more of a sightseeing-oriented mode of transport than a typical urban railway. In 2019, it was selected as one of the 100 Must-Visit Tourist Spots in Korea by the Korea Tourism Organization.
How to get from Incheon Station Exit 1 to Wolmisea Station
Travelers visiting Incheon for the first time can use Incheon Station Exit 1 as their starting point. At the Incheon Station (Chinatown) bus stop, trunk bus routes 2, 10, 15, 28, and 45, branch bus route Incheon E-eum 12, and seat bus route 307 stop. The key reference point given in the official transportation information is Incheon Station Exit 1.
The destination address is 6 Wolmi-ro, Jemulpo-gu, Incheon Metropolitan City. If using the No. 8 Pier parking lot, the address is 4-251 Bukseong-dong 1-ga, Jung-gu, Incheon, and free parking is available. However, no verified information is available on the exact walking distance from the ticket office to the actual platform, uphill sections, or the elevator route for people with disabilities and strollers, so groups with limited mobility should contact the facility by phone for safety.
A four-station loop course starting at Wolmisea Station
The four stations on the route are Wolmisea Station, Wolmi Park Station, Wolmi Culture Street Station, and Museum Station. The train departs from Wolmisea Station and travels one complete loop. Tickets purchased on-site allow both initial boarding and reboarding at all four stations. However, this policy may change depending on on-site circumstances.
Each station serves a different destination. Wolmi Park Station can be used for visits to Wolmi Park and Wolmisan Mountain; Wolmi Culture Street Station for Wolmi Culture Street; and Museum Station for planning visits to the Museum of Korean Immigration History, the Lock Gate Promotion Center, Incheon Inner Port, and Wolmi Observatory. Customers with online reservations may board for the first time only at Wolmisea Station, so purchasing a ticket on-site is more suitable if you want to start at another station.
Eight sights to see from the train, from the silo mural to the West Sea sunset
The eight officially promoted sights of the Wolmi Sea Train are the silo mural, Wolmisan Mountain and Wolmi Park, Wolmi Culture Street, the West Sea sunset, Lighthouse Road, Incheon Bridge, Incheon Port Lock Gate, and Incheon Inner Port. This is not a course in which you get off the train to visit all of them; instead, you view them from different locations through the train windows and around the stations during the loop.
In particular, the silo mural building is 48 m high, equivalent to a 22-story apartment building, and the mural covers 23,689 ㎡. Twenty-two experts worked on it for approximately 100 days, using 865,400 liters of paint, and it was listed in the Guinness World Records in December 2018. Since the West Sea sunset is one of the eight sights, you can aim to ride around sunset, but you must also calculate the operating hours and the last train.
Operating hours and Monday closure as of August 2026
As confirmed on August 26, 2026, during the peak season from April through October, trains operate from 10:00 to 19:00 on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, and from 10:00 to 18:00 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. During the off-season from November through March, trains operate from 10:00 to 18:00. The regular closing day is every Monday.
If Monday is a public holiday, the train operates normally and closes on the first following non-holiday. On days with operations ending at 18:00, the last train from Wolmisea Station departs at 17:10–17:15; on days with operations ending at 19:00, the last train departs at 18:10–18:15. The interval between trains is approximately 15 minutes, but departures do not follow a fixed schedule, and service may be suspended due to weather conditions or facility problems. 11,000 won on weekdays and 14,000 won on weekends: Reservation rules
As confirmed on August 26, 2026, the regular adult fare is 11,000 won on weekdays and 14,000 won on weekends. Regular seniors and youths pay 8,000 won on weekdays and 10,000 won on weekends; children pay 7,000 won on weekdays and 8,000 won on weekends; and people with disabilities and national merit recipients pay 6,000 won on weekdays and 7,000 won on weekends. Incheon residents pay 8,000 won for adults, 6,000 won for seniors and youths, 5,000 won for children, and 4,000 won for people with disabilities and national merit recipients on both weekdays and weekends.
Adults are aged 19 or older and under 65, while children are aged 3 through 12. Group fares apply to groups of 20 or more. Online reservations are available until the day before boarding, and reservations cannot be made on the day of boarding. On-site payment can be made by credit card, Incheon E-eum Card, cash, or T-money.
On-site variables involving seating, reboarding, and food regulations
Seats are not assigned on the Wolmi Sea Train. When there are many passengers, you may not be able to sit, so do not assume that an online reservation guarantees a seat. During the boarding-valid period on the day of travel, passengers may reboard up to three times in total, including the initial boarding, making it possible to explore around a station and then board again.
On weekdays, additional boarding is possible if you present both your ticket and a receipt dated that day from a commercial facility within the Wolmi Tourist Special Zone. Food and beverages may not be brought onto the vehicles, and pets other than guide dogs are not permitted. Information on whether photography is prohibited, whether English guidance and audio guides are available, and the specific waiting-line time periods was not confirmed within the available guidance, so travelers for whom English access is important should call 032-450-7600 in advance.
One-day itineraries branching from Wolmisea Station and Wolmi Park Station
The train ride alone takes about 42 minutes, but by using the reboarding rules for tickets purchased on-site, which allow you to get off at any of the four stations, you can divide your Wolmido itinerary into separate stops. At Wolmi Park Station, it is natural to combine visits to Wolmi Park and Wolmisan Mountain; at Wolmi Culture Street Station, combine a visit to Wolmi Culture Street.
Around Museum Station are the Museum of Korean Immigration History, the Lock Gate Promotion Center, Incheon Inner Port, and Wolmi Observatory. The station facilities themselves also differ: Wolmisea Station has period-costume try-ons and photo experiences; Wolmi Park Station has a VR experience and rooftop garden; Wolmi Culture Street Station has a sunset observatory and Wolmi Message Board; and Museum Station has a model lighthouse from Sowolmido. If you plan to get off and revisit several places, you should account for unassigned seating and the approximately 15-minute train interval in your itinerary.
The structure of the Wolmi Sea Train made visible by its battery-powered, catenary-free vehicles
The Wolmi Sea Train uses an eco-friendly battery-powered, catenary-free system, with a 355 V DC battery-powered catenary-free power supply. The track uses a three-rail system, and the fleet consists of five trainsets. Four trainsets operate while one is kept as a reserve, and each trainset consists of two cars.
The passenger capacity is 46 people, and the vehicle dimensions are 15.30 m long, 3.54 m high, and 2.39 m wide. The facility information lists an operating speed of 9.0 km/h and a maximum speed of 20.0 km/h. Wolmisea Station has five above-ground floors and a total floor area of 2,042 ㎡; Wolmi Park Station has three above-ground floors and a total floor area of 3,981 ㎡; Wolmi Culture Street Station has two above-ground floors and a total floor area of 712 ㎡; and Museum Station has three above-ground floors and a total floor area of 881 ㎡. Since it is not a fast means of transportation, it suits people who prioritize views from the train window but is not suitable for those who want to pass through Wolmido in a short time.
Reservation cancellation fees and official information channels
As confirmed on August 26, 2026, cancellations made within one hour of booking receive a full refund without a fee. There is also no fee for cancellations made up to three days before the boarding date; cancellations made up to two days before the boarding date incur a fee of 10% of the ticket price, while cancellations made up to one day before incur 20%.
On the day of boarding, cancellations made before the designated time incur a fee of 30% of the ticket price, and cancellations cannot be made after the designated time.
