September 25, 2009: Why a Cluster of Warehouses Became an Art Space
Incheon Art Platform is operated by the Incheon Foundation for Arts and Culture and opened on September 25, 2009. Centered on a residency program supporting the creative and research activities of visual artists and researchers from Korea and abroad, it also operates exhibitions, performances, and educational programs.
Its current appearance is not the result of constructing new buildings, but of remodeling buildings from the port-opening period and architecture from the 1930s and 1940s. The complex consists of 13 buildings, including creative studios, exhibition halls, a performance hall, and the Incheon Community Culture Center, creating circulation more like a small city block than a single gallery.
The Character of a Space Shaped by an 1888 Japanese Concession Building
Building D is a relatively large office building constructed in 1888 within the Japanese Concession. Recognized as an important resource for studying the preservation and use of modern architecture, it was designated National Registered Cultural Heritage No. 248 in 2006.
Because each building had a different former use, their interiors and exteriors do not share a uniform atmosphere. The A Art Education Lounge is a red-brick mixed-use building constructed in 1902, while the H Culture Lounge is a Japanese-style shop-house residence built in the Japanese Concession in 1943.
Distinguishing Buildings B and C, Former Daehan Express Warehouses
Building B Exhibition Hall 1 was constructed in 1948 and used as a Daehan Express warehouse. Covering approximately 200 pyeong across the first and second floors, it is the largest exhibition hall at Incheon Art Platform and is registered as a Class 1 art museum by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Performance Hall C was also a large Daehan Express warehouse built in 1948, after liberation. Since it has a seatless black-box format, it should not be understood as a place visitors can freely enter like a regular exhibition hall on performance days; access depends on the admission arrangements for each performance.
The 49-Pyeong Central Plaza Exhibition Hall and Car-Free Street
E1 Exhibition Hall 2 is an approximately 49-pyeong exhibition space located in the central plaza of Incheon Art Platform. The central plaza operates as a car-free street, and large and small public artworks are installed on walls and across the ground, making the routes between exhibition halls themselves part of the viewing experience.
The central plaza is also used for film festivals, markets, outdoor performances, and events. The busking zone in front of Building D is a place where anyone can perform by applying online, so if an event or busking is taking place on the day of your visit, the plaza atmosphere may be more prominent than quiet indoor exhibition viewing.
Five Minutes from Incheon Station Toward Jungbu Police Station
For first-time visitors, the simplest starting point is Incheon Station. After getting off at Incheon Station on Line 1 or the Suin–Bundang Line, walk toward Jungbu Police Station; it takes about five minutes. Official guidance lists trunk buses 2, 10, 15, 28, and 45, Incheon e-Eum 12, and seat bus 307 from the Incheon Station stop.
If you use the Jemulpo-gu Office stop, trunk buses 15 and 28, Incheon e-Eum 12, and seat bus 307 are listed. When traveling from the Sinpo Market area, transfer information for trunk buses 4, 9, 12, 15, 16, 24, 28, 45, 72, and 112 toward Jemulpo-gu Office is provided, so it is safest to check bus intervals and the stop where you will get off just before departure.
Bus Stops to Know When Traveling Directly from Incheon Airport Terminals
At Incheon International Airport Terminal 1, you can take Airport Bus 306 from boarding stop 13B on the first floor. At Terminal 2, Airport Bus 307 is listed at boarding stop 1 or 8, so check your arrival terminal first to avoid going to the wrong terminal.
Airport buses may take longer than city subways, and general visiting hours at Incheon Art Platform are 11:00 to 18:00, with admission closing at 17:30. If you are visiting on the same day as your flight arrival, allow enough time to reach the actual exhibition entrance before 17:30.
Admission Is Free, but It Is Closed on Mondays
General admission is free. Visiting hours are 11:00–18:00 from Tuesday through Sunday, with admission closing at 17:30. Closed days are every Monday, January 1, and the day of Seollal and Chuseok.

Exhibitions operate according to their schedules, while access to the performance hall, studios, and project spaces may vary depending on programs and whether those areas are open.
The Difference Between a 1–2-Hour Visit and a 60-Minute Architecture Tour
Based on visitor reviews, the recommended sightseeing time is 1–2 hours. This is a suitable guideline for visiting one or two exhibitions, the central plaza, and the building exteriors, but if you want to explore the character of all 13 buildings, you should calculate travel time between buildings and program time separately.
The basic IAP architecture tour in the official educational program “IAP Explorers: Discovering Every Corner” was introduced as a roughly 60-minute tour of buildings A–H and all 13 buildings. Since this tour is a separate program from general admission, visitors interested in architectural explanations should check whether the program is posted and how to apply.
Parking Accepts Cards Only and May Be Unavailable During Central Plaza Events
The affiliated parking lot operates from 09:00 to 18:00. The fee is 1,000 won for the first 30 minutes, followed by 500 won for every additional 15 minutes, and card payment is the only option. If you plan to pay in cash, you may be unable to complete payment at the parking lot.
The parking lot is small, so public transportation is recommended. Parking may be unavailable during outdoor central plaza events or when groups of visitors are present. People with disabilities and national merit recipients receive an 80% discount and the first hour free; compact cars and motorcycles receive a 60% discount, and low-emission vehicles receive a 50% discount.
Wheelchair Access Routes and Restrictions on Assistance Dogs
There are designated parking spaces for people with disabilities and a ramp accessible to wheelchairs. The main entrance has a manual door but allows wheelchair passage, and an elevator that can accommodate one wheelchair is also available.
Braille blocks, separate men’s and women’s restrooms, and a baby-care and nursing room are available. However, although assistance dogs may accompany visitors, they cannot enter the buildings, an important restriction for travelers planning to view indoor exhibitions with an assistance dog.
How to Experience Exhibitions, Performances, and Busking on the Same Day
Incheon Art Platform is not simply an art museum displaying works; it is an art platform combining residency spaces, exhibition halls, a performance hall, and educational spaces. Spaces A, H, B, C, E1–E3, F, and G1–G3 are listed. E1–E3 are artist studios, F is a guest residence, G1–G2 are project spaces, and G3 is introduced as a shared workshop.
Arts and culture education, hands-on activities, and exhibition interpretation programs are also offered. The official schedule lists the 2026 school-linked program from March 12 to December 31, Cha Ki-yul’s solo exhibition 《Hwahaegi: Reconciling with the Sea》 from August 13 to October 18, 2026, and the 2026 Street Arts Festival on October 3, so the spaces and events you see may vary depending on when you visit.
