The Third Shinsegae Branch in the Northwestern Seoul Metropolitan Area, Born from the Goyang Samsong Land Development Project
Starfield is a mixed-use shopping mall brand operated by Shinsegae Property. Starfield Hanam opened first on September 9, 2016, and the company acquired COEX Mall on October 28 of the same year. Starfield Goyang, the third branch in this series, officially opened on August 24, 2017, in the area formerly known as Dongsan-dong, Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do.
The site belongs to the Goyang Samsong Land Development Project district, where New Samsong City was developed. The road-address designation, “1955 Goyang-daero, Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do,” was assigned in March 2017, five months before the opening. In August 2017, shortly before the opening, nearby village bus routes underwent a major reorganization, reshaping the local transportation network.
The opening process was not entirely smooth. Construction was temporarily suspended after a worker fell to his death during the project. One month before the opening, residents of nearby Dongsan-dong held a banner protest demanding the cancellation of site-use approval and measures to protect traditional commercial districts. Shinsegae responded by expanding the lanes at the Dongsan Samgeori intersection at its own expense and designing separate entrances for customer and freight parking.
Shinsegae Vice Chairman Chung Yong-jin attended the opening ceremony on August 24, 2017, and delivered a congratulatory speech. The Shinsegae Factory Store also officially opened that day, drawing large crowds. The architecture incorporates modern reinterpretations of Korean motifs such as the natural environment and fortress walls of Bukhansan, as well as soaring gates and watchtowers.

135,500㎡ of Retail Space Spread across Six Floors
Starfield Goyang has a total floor area of 135,500㎡, roughly the size of Lafesta and Ilsan Cultural Park in New Ilsan City combined.
By floor, Traders Wholesale Club is located on basement level 2; No Brand, UNIQLO, Hanssem, and JAJU are on basement level 1; Gourmet Street, Shinsegae Factory Store, Molly’s Pet Shop, H&M, and ZARA are on the first floor; Electromart, a Hyundai Motor showroom, Golfzon Market, and Fun City are on the second floor; Eatopia, Toy Kingdom, Youngpoong Bookstore, and Starfield Kids are on the third floor; and Aquafield, BV Beauty Village, Smob, Megabox, and Day Golf are on the fourth floor.
According to Wikipedia, the Goyang branch is characterized by expanding experiential content targeting infants, children, and men, befitting its status as the third branch. Food, beverage, and service-oriented “things to enjoy” account for about 30% of the mall’s total floor area. At the time of its opening, Fortune Korea also described it as the largest shopping mall in the northwestern Seoul metropolitan area.

500 Meters in a Straight Line and an 8-Minute Walk from Exit 3 of Samsong Station on Line 3
When traveling by subway, Starfield Goyang is 500 meters in a straight line and about an 8-minute walk from Exit 3 of Samsong Station on Line 3, according to the official E-Mart guide. Buses 703, 705, and 42 stop at the “Starfield Goyang” bus stop, while buses 46, 48, 75A, and 77A stop at the “Starfield Rear Entrance” bus stop.
In August 2017, shortly before the opening, Goyang’s local village bus routes underwent a major reorganization, creating a new network designed around access to Starfield.
Namu Wiki explains that, unlike Starfield Hanam, Starfield Goyang has Samsong Station within walking distance, so public transportation accounts for a relatively high share of visits. However, some observers also note that the actual walking distance is not especially short, making access feel less convenient than expected.
Tips for Free Parking, from Basement Level 2 to the Rooftop
Parking at Starfield Goyang is free. Visitors to Traders Wholesale Club are directed to use the underground parking lot, located on basement levels 1 and 2.
For safety late at night, entry to the second-floor outdoor parking area through the rooftop level (RF) is restricted after 21:00. During this time, visitors must use the first-floor parking area. Electric-vehicle charging stations are installed near the store entrances on outdoor levels 2 through 4.
According to Namu Wiki, part of the parking lot was expanded to accommodate 1,000 vehicles, with completion on December 4, 2020.
There are three ways to find your car. Check the parking location printed at the bottom of your purchase receipt, search at a parking payment machine in the mall directory, or use the “Find My Car Location” menu in the Starfield Goyang mobile app.
Aquafield on Floors 4–5: A Four-Season Water Park and Jjimjil Spa
Aquafield Goyang is a water park and jjimjil spa that opened on the same day as Starfield Goyang, August 24, 2017. It is operated by Josun Hotels & Resorts, part of the Shinsegae Group. Saunas, bath facilities, and jjimjil rooms are located on the fourth floor, while an indoor and outdoor water park and an infinity rooftop pool are located on the fifth floor.
Operating hours are 10:00–22:00 daily for the jjimjil spa, 10:00–19:00 for the indoor rooftop pool, and 11:00–18:00 for the outdoor rooftop pool. The outdoor pool’s operating schedule varies by season.
As of January 2026, admission is 26,000 won for adults aged middle-school level and above and 21,000 won for children aged 36 months through elementary school for the jjimjil spa; 46,000 won for adults and 36,000 won for children for the water park; and 56,000 won for adults and 46,000 won for children for the multipass covering both facilities. Children under 36 months enter free. The maximum usage time is six hours each for the jjimjil spa and water park, or nine hours for the multipass; an additional 5,000 won per hour is charged for exceeding the limit.
Online advance reservations are cheaper than on-site purchases. Reviews commonly mention that weekday mornings are the least crowded, while weekends and evenings are busy.

Megabox MX Theater and Electromart — A Third Branch Focused More on “Experiences” Than Shopping
Megabox on floors 4–5 of Starfield Goyang opened alongside Starfield in August 2017. At the time, CGV Hwajeong in front of Hwajeong Station was the only modern cinema in Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si. Megabox Goyang Starfield became the first cinema in Goyang-si to introduce an MX theater, creating a competitive landscape.
Wikipedia classifies Starfield Goyang as the third branch to strengthen “experiential content for infants, children, and men.” Experiential and entertainment stores such as Electromart on the second floor, Smob, Fun City, and Day Golf were designed to account for about 30% of the mall’s total floor area, together with food, beverage, and service facilities.
Store-specific inquiry numbers are 031-5174-1234 for Traders Wholesale Club, 031-5173-4500 for Aquafield, 1544-0070 for Megabox, 031-5173-4009 for Smob, and 031-5173-2001 for Fun City. The Starfield Goyang integrated customer center can be reached at 1833-9001 from 10:00 to 22:00.
Weekday Mornings Are the Quietest — A Checklist Before Your Visit
Visitor reviews on Trip.com commonly mention that the mall is crowded on weekends and in the evenings but easier to navigate on weekdays, and that parking inside the building is convenient. Many reviews list the Aquafield spa and Sports Monster (Smob) as must-try experiences, while the wide range of cafés and dining options also receives repeated praise.
One detail that first-time visitors often miss is that Aquafield is not a separate building; it occupies floors 4–5 of the Starfield Goyang building itself. Visitors can move there immediately within the same building before or after shopping or watching a movie.
However, Aquafield is closer to a quiet water park centered on jjimjil rooms and spa facilities than a facility with amusement rides or slides. Visitors expecting a water park focused on rides may find it somewhat uneventful.
