Ilsan Lake Park: Walking the Waterways of a 1.034-Million-Square-Meter New Town
Ilsan Lake Park is a 1.034-million-square-meter neighborhood park developed alongside the construction of Ilsan New Town from 1992 to 1995. Centered around its 9.1-kilometer walking trail, 4.7-kilometer bicycle path, Dalmaji Island, Wolpajeong Pavilion, and nature learning center, it is ideal for creating a half-day itinerary.

300,000㎡ of Water Surface Turned into Ilsan New Town’s Artificial Lake from 1992 to 1995
Ilsan Lake Park is an urban neighborhood park created in connection with the Ilsan New Town residential land development project from December 31, 1992, to December 28, 1995. The total area is 1,034,000㎡, the lake covers 300,000㎡, its freshwater capacity is 453,000㎥, and the water depth is listed as 0.5–3.0 m.
This lake is not naturally formed; instead, it is operated by bringing in water from the Jayang water intake plant upstream of the Jamsil underwater weir on the Han River. The daily treatment capacity for incoming water is 2,500㎥, the circulation water treatment capacity is 4,000㎥, and the city sets maintaining Class II or higher water quality as its management target.
From the 9.1 km Walking Trail to Dalmaji Island: Why Choosing a Section Matters More Than Covering the Entire Route
The park has a 9.1 km walking trail, including Metasequoia Road, and a 4.7 km bicycle path. Goyang City’s tourism guide also describes the lakeside walking trail as 7.5 km, so it is useful to keep in mind that the route around the lake and the walking route covering the entire park are different in length.
If you have one to two hours, it is more practical to enter from the Jeongbalsan Station side and focus on the section connecting the lakeshore and Dalmaji Island. Dalmaji Island has Wolpajeong, an octagonal pavilion, while the Observatory Plaza, Nature Learning Center, Cactus Botanical Garden, and sculptural artworks are well suited to a longer walk.
10 Minutes from Exit 1 of Line 3 Jeongbalsan Station, 3 Minutes for Buses 33-1, 88A, and 88B
The official road-name address is 595 Hosu-ro, Ilsandong-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do. By subway, walk for about 10 minutes from Exit 1 of Jeongbalsan Station on Line 3 toward Ilsan Lake Park. From Seoul Station, the recommended route is to take Line 1 to Jongno 3-ga Station and transfer to a Line 3 train bound for Daehwa.
Buses 33-1, 88A, and 88B stop at the “Ilsan Lake Park” bus stop, which is about a 3-minute walk from the park. From the “Ilsandong-gu Office (Middle)” bus stop, get off buses 11, 65, 66, 96, 97, 707, 760, 7727, 1000, 1100, 1500, 3300, or M7412, then walk for about 10 minutes.
1,053 Spaces in Parking Lots 1–4 and a Flat Rate of 2,000 Won on Event Days
The park’s parking facilities have 240 spaces in Lot 1, 507 in Lot 2, 181 in Lot 3, and 125 in Lot 4, for a total of 1,053 spaces. The regular parking fee for passenger cars is 90 won per five minutes, while a flat rate of 2,000 won per space applies during events.
Vans and buses with 15 or more but fewer than 45 seats, and freight vehicles weighing 2.5 tons or more but less than 11 tons, are charged double. Buses with 45 or more seats and freight vehicles weighing 11 tons or more are charged triple. Parking inquiries can be made at 1522-2960, and park management inquiries at 031-909-9000. On days with large events such as the Flower Exhibition, it is better to consider the flat rate and possible congestion first and choose public transportation.
How to Borrow Strollers and Wheelchairs for Free from the General Information Center, Open 08:00–20:00
Admission to the park itself is free, and there is no separate admission fee for ordinary walks. The General Information Center operates from 08:00 to 20:00 and can be reached at 031-8075-4347. Strollers and wheelchairs are available free of charge upon presentation of identification, making the center a practical starting point for visitors who find long walks difficult.
Diaper-changing tables are installed at seven locations, including the Plaza, Rose, Crane, Lakeside, Crocodile, Waterfall, and Cheongpyeongji restrooms. The General Information Center also has a nursing room and infant beds. Drinking fountains are located at 13 places throughout the park, including the Observatory Plaza, Restroom Exhibition Hall, Cactus Playground, Waterwheel, and Cheongpyeongji Plaza.
Tents, Cooking, and Fishing Are Prohibited; Dogs Must Be Leashed and Waste Collected
The park is best approached as a place centered on walking rather than one planned for spreading out extensive picnic equipment. Setting up tents or sunshades, cooking, fishing, smoking, and commercial or sales activities are prohibited. Motorized devices such as electric scooters and motorcycles are also not permitted.
If you bring a dog, it must be kept on a leash and its waste must be collected. Separate advance inquiries are required if you wish to use facilities for photography, video recording, or events. The listed usage fee for the event plaza is 100,000 won for three hours, while photography costs 10,000 won per day; VAT is charged separately.
Singing Fountain from April to October 2026: Performance Times Vary by Month
The Singing Fountain operates from April to October in 2026. Music fountain performances are held at 19:30 and 20:00 on Fridays through Sundays and public holidays in April and May; at 20:00 and 20:30 from Wednesdays through Sundays and on public holidays in June through August; and at 19:00 and 19:30 on Fridays through Sundays and public holidays in September and October.
The main fountain operates from April to October, while the stair and ground fountains operate from May to October. If you are planning to see an evening performance, check the operating notice for that day again before setting out. The Singing Fountain inquiry number is 031-924-5822. The snack shop operates from 10:00 to 20:00, while the handicraft exhibition and sales shop operates from 10:00 to 18:00 in summer and from 10:00 to 17:00 in winter.
