Meet GXG 2026 at Pangyo Station Plaza on September 11–12

GXG 2026 will be held for two days, from Friday, September 11, 2026, to Saturday, September 12, at 121 Bundangnaegok-ro, Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do (Baekhyeon-dong) and around Pangyo Station Plaza. Operating hours are 13:00–22:00, and admission is free. Hosted by Seongnam City and organized by the Seongnam Industry Promotion Agency and the Game Culture Foundation, this will be the fourth edition of GXG. The schedule, location, fees, and contact number 031-717-4990 were confirmed through the GXG 2026 Event Guide.

The fun of this festival lies not only in playing games, but also in following them through music, video, art, and stories. The main features introduced include the opening ceremony, a game music competition, a traditional Korean music concert featuring game OSTs, the GXG SOUND TRACK exhibition, and a social contribution exhibition by the game industry. There will also be game brand experience zones, an indie game exhibition, a university student game exhibition, a stamp rally, networking, and an export consultation session. To me, the way game music and audience reactions spread across the plaza between Pangyo's glass buildings felt like the most distinctly Pangyo-like appeal of the event.

The stage to watch most closely is The 3rd GXG SOUND TRACK. In 2026, original compositions based on 16 games from 15 game companies were solicited, and the six teams that passed the preliminary round will compete in the finals on the evening of September 11 at the main stage in Pangyo Station Plaza. The gala concert will follow on the same main stage on the evening of September 12, with total prize money of 21 million won. Submitted songs had to be in MP3 format, at least two minutes long and under five minutes, with no genre restrictions. After reading the The 3rd GXG SOUND TRACK Guide, it became clear to me that this is a competition in which participants interpret a game's world through their own music, rather than simply performing cover songs.

In 2025, GXG was held at Pangyo Station Plaza on September 19–20, and Ujugolchi Club won the grand prize for the soundtrack with “Hollow's Puppet,” inspired by the game “Lies of P.” Knowing the character of last year's stage should make it even more enjoyable to listen to how the 2026 finalists incorporate a game's narrative into a single song. It would also be worth reading the story of Ujugolchi Club's 2025 grand prize.

Route for enjoying Pangyo Station Exit 1 and The 3rd GXG SOUND TRACK

By subway, Pangyo Station, where the Shinbundang Line and Gyeonggang Line meet, is the most convenient option. Using Exit 1 as a reference point makes the route toward Pangyo Station Plaza simple, and since the event venues spread across the Pangyo Station area, there is little need to walk far while carrying heavy luggage. The Pangyo Station Exit and Transfer Guide introduces Exit 1 as the direction for Pangyo Techno Valley and Pangyo Station Plaza.

For friends taking the bus, it is useful to remember stop 07-489, “Pangyo Station, Nakseang Overpass, Hyundai Department Store.” Bus routes 103, 340, 341, 521, 1005, 1150, 1151, 1500-2, 3330, 3500, 6003, 6011, 7007-1, 8106, 8110, 9000, 9007, 9300, and 9401 pass this stop. Hyundai Department Store Pangyo is listed as a five-minute walk from Exit 3 of Pangyo Station on the Shinbundang Line, making it convenient to add a meal or indoor rest stop before the performances. Bus routes and parking information are also available in the Hyundai Department Store Pangyo Transportation and Parking Guide.

For those driving, 121 Bundangnaegok-ro, the event address, is also used as the address of Pangyo Station Transfer Public Parking Lot. However, the dedicated parking arrangements for GXG 2026 have not been announced separately, so on the day of the event it may be more relaxing to choose the subway or bus first, considering traffic around Pangyo Station. Information for the 2025 event listed Plink Pangyo at 81 m, Gravity Seoul Pangyo at 138 m, and Hyundai Department Store Pangyo at 177 m away. The 2025 GXG Area Information provides a good sense of how to connect walks around Pangyo Station before and after the performances.

For foreign friends, the fact that admission is free is welcome news. However, no separate information has yet been provided about which individual booths accept card, cash, or mobile payments, or whether English signs and interpretation will be available. The 2026 event runs from 13:00 to 22:00, with the soundtrack finals and gala concert taking place on the main stage at Pangyo Station Plaza on the evenings of September 11 and 12, so planning around these two time slots should work well. Since this is an outdoor plaza event, it is a good idea to bring a folding umbrella, a light outer layer, and comfortable shoes for standing over extended periods.

In 2025, the program included listening to busking performances while having drinks at the Cool Station, and the game accessibility booth displayed eye-tracking devices, foot switches, and keypad-style assistive devices. Although it cannot be assumed that the same setup will continue in 2026, it is worth remembering that companions who do not play games themselves still had options such as music, exhibitions, and rest areas. The 2025 GXG On-Site Report offers a look at how the space was arranged at the time.

Pangyo Station Plaza, where 38,000 people gathered in 2025: Prepare for lines and wet weather

It is best not to underestimate the busiest periods. Approximately 38,000 people visited GXG over the two days of September 19–20, 2025, and around 200 organizations and companies participated. Even on the rainy days at the time, long lines reportedly formed in front of the game experience booths in Pangyo Station Central Plaza. If brand experience zones are your top priority in 2026, it will be much less tiring to check the locations of your preferred booths first after arriving at the venue. The atmosphere at the time was confirmed through the 2025 GXG closing event article and the article on the 2025 visitor numbers.

Pangyo Station Plaza is an outdoor space, so the ground becomes wet when it rains, and there may be long periods of standing while watching performances. Since the 2025 event also operated in rainy weather, I recommend preparing non-slip sneakers and a portable power bank rather than bringing only an umbrella. Instead of standing in front of the main stage the entire time, walking around the exhibition and experience areas once and returning in time for the performance should help conserve your energy.

Detailed on-site information such as restrooms, seating areas, rainy-weather shelters, and advance reservation procedures remains limited. In 2025, the GXG Art Book Lounge operated on the first floor of Pangyo TechOne, while the GXG Campus Arcade operated on the second floor, so if indoor affiliated spaces and an event map are released for 2026, it would be wise to save them first. The safest place to check the overall framework and changes to this year's program is the official GXG 2026 introduction.

Game OSTs and 16 featured games: Which travelers will enjoy GXG 2026?

GXG 2026 is not an event only for people who have played many of the latest games. It is especially well suited to people who want to hear scenes from games they love reinterpreted through music, experience the atmosphere of Pangyo, where Korea's game industry is concentrated, or take their time viewing indie games and university student projects. Listening to the original performances by six teams based on 16 featured games made me think that even visitors who do not understand every word can follow the emotions of the games through melody and performance.

Conversely, travelers who expect only quiet indoor exhibitions or want to try a specific game booth immediately without waiting should consider in advance the crowds and weather variables of an outdoor plaza festival. Even so, with free admission and the opportunity to walk around the Pangyo Station area from 13:00 to 22:00, simply choosing one performance and one exhibition should be enough to experience how games expand into music and art within Korea's urban culture. I think the best moment of the festival will be taking in Pangyo's nighttime scenery while listening to original game music resonating from the main stage after sunset.
