The Gateway to Myeongnyang Encountered Immediately After Crossing Jindo Bridge

Jindo Tower is located at 112-41 Manggeum-gil, Gunnae-myeon, Jindo-gun, Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City, and is included in the Jindo Bridge tourism area. Jindo-gun introduces this site as the first gateway into Jindo and describes the area around Jindo Bridge and Jindo Tower as a tourist attraction visited by approximately 2.6 million people annually.

Jindo Bridge opened in 1984. Therefore, this place is not simply an observation facility; it is best understood as Jindo's gateway, connecting the island to the mainland through the bridge, while also presenting the island's history and the memory of the Battle of Myeongnyang. The final revision date of the official tourism content for Jindo Bridge and Jindo Tower is November 27, 2018.

The Battle of Myeongnyang Reflected in the Name Victory Square

Jindo Tower is also introduced as Victory Square in Jindo-gun information. Jindo-gun explains that it is a symbol created to carry on the spirit of protecting the nation shown by the ancestors and Jindo residents who helped Admiral Yi Sun-sin lead the Battle of Myeongnyang to victory 416 years ago.

The key feature to appreciate on site is not the construction year or number of floors, but its position overlooking Jindo Bridge and the sea passage together. Rather than viewing Jindo Tower separately from Jindo Bridge, planning it as a place where visitors can understand at once the connection established by the bridge's opening in 1984 and the historical context of Myeongnyang makes the purpose of the visit clear.

09:00 to 18:00 from March through October

According to the English information provided by the Korea Tourism Organization, operating hours are 09:00–18:00 from March to October and 09:00–17:00 from November to February. Since the closing time becomes one hour earlier, changing from 18:00 to 17:00 depending on the season, it is safer to avoid arriving late in the afternoon during winter.

Jindo-gun's fee page states that the site is closed every Monday, while separate information also lists it as open year-round. Meanwhile, the 2026 Stamp Tour page identifies Jindo Tower as a year-round distribution point for tour vouchers, so the closure schedule for exhibitions and observation areas may differ from the operating schedule of the voucher distribution point. The final revision date of the fee content is March 4, 2020.

Admission Fee of 1,000 Won and Free-Admission Groups

According to Jindo-gun's fee table, the individual adult admission fee is 1,000 won, while the fees for individual youths, individual military and police personnel, and groups are also 1,000 won each. The children's individual and group fees are not 1,000 won according to the published fee table. A group is defined as 30 or more people.

Preschool children, people aged 65 or older, and Jindo residents receive free admission upon identity verification. Since the inquiry number 540-6441 is also shown on the fee table, travelers who need to ask about Monday closures or fee eligibility may use this number. The published information does not confirm whether only cash is accepted or whether card payments are available.

Public Transportation Requires a Travel Plan After Arriving in Jindo

Jindo-gun's official transportation information provides separate menus for intercity bus schedules, KTX and SRT schedules, and county bus schedules. However, the published information does not identify the county bus route number that directly passes Jindo Tower, the stop name, or the walking time from the stop to the tower.

Travelers departing from Goyang, Yongin, Suwon, Uijeongbu, Sangbong, Incheon, Ansan, Siheung, Cheonan, or Anseong are advised to transfer at Jeongan Service Area to an express bus bound for Jindo. After arriving in Jindo, it is practical to check the county bus schedule or plan to rent a car. The transportation information lists Jindo Tourism Travel Agency at 544-4411, Jindo Ttangkkeut Limousine Travel Agency at 542-3666, Nara Express Tourism Travel Agency at 544-8889 and 544-8133, International Tourism Travel Agency at 542-9007, and Jindo Seonkyung Rent-a-Car at 544-4748 and 544-9900.

Things to Know in Advance About Parking and the Visitor Route

According to reviews, viewing Jindo Tower itself takes approximately 40 minutes, excluding travel time. Stroller rentals are not available, and no public information has been found regarding wheelchair access routes or indoor circulation. Seohaerang Trail Course 6 and the 2026 Stamp Tour

Jindo Tower is a certification location on Seohaerang Trail Course 6. The official course listing indicates that the section between Nokjin Tourist Site and Jindo Tower is 0.8 km, while the section between Jindo Tower and the Byeokpajin Battle Memorial is 9.6 km. Visitors may view only the tower briefly, but hikers should choose their next destination based on these distances.

The 2026 Stamp Tour is scheduled to operate from May through December and may end when the budget is exhausted. Eligible participants are tourists excluding Jindo-gun residents. Jindo Tower, the voucher distribution point, is listed as open year-round, with operating hours from 09:00 to 17:00. Four or more stamps earn a 5,000-won local gift certificate, eight or more earn 10,000 won, and twelve or more earn 15,000 won. Jindo Tower is included as one of the certification locations among 28 major tourist attractions.

When Should You Visit, Day or Night?

During the day, it is easy to take in Jindo Bridge and the sea together, and visitors can complete their observation and sightseeing within Jindo Tower's operating hours. The closing time is 18:00 from March to October and 17:00 from November to February, so travelers visiting for night views should distinguish between the time available for viewing the interior and the time spent looking at it from outside.

Jindo-gun's official tourism page features photos of Jindo Tower at night, Jindo Bridge, and the moon reflected on the sea with Jindo Bridge. However, the published information does not confirm whether photography is restricted. Travelers who definitely want to tour the inside of Jindo Tower should avoid Mondays and arrive with sufficient time before closing, allowing for the 40-minute visit and entry time.
