Why Nam mangsan Sculpture Park Became a Digital Park at Night in October 2020

DiPIRANG is a nighttime digital theme park that opened on October 16, 2020, at Nam mangsan Sculpture Park in Dongho-dong, Tongyeong. In Tongyeong’s Dongpirang and Seopirang, murals are replaced approximately every two years through public competitions, and DiPIRANG was designed around the concept that these vanished murals come to life again in a forest at night.

Nam mangsan Sculpture Park opened in October 1997 and exhibits works by 15 contemporary sculptors from 10 countries. DiPIRANG uses the existing park’s terrain and walking paths, adding light, video, and sound to create a nighttime route that differs from the daytime harbor scenery near Tongyeong’s Ganggugan.

15 Scenes and a 1.5 km Forest Trail: From “Strange Footprints” to the “Forgotten Door”

According to official tourism information, DiPIRANG’s viewing route is approximately 1.5 km long and continues through 15 themed spaces. Beyond the opening scenes, “Strange Footprints” and the “Forgotten Door,” visitors encounter connected scenes such as the sparkling forest, old camellia trees, the secret workshop, DiPIRANG, and the forest exit.

The content incorporates visual elements associated with Tongyeong and the southern coast, such as Tongyeong Harbor, mother-of-pearl, beoksu guardian figures, Namhaean Byeolsingut shamanic rituals, and Ogwangdae masked dance. Visitors have been informed that they can purchase light balls separately to trigger responses at some interactive points, but availability and prices may vary by season, so it is safest to check before purchasing tickets.

Seasonal Closing Times After the 2026 Reopening: Summer Until 11 p.m.

DiPIRANG temporarily closed from January 5 to January 30, 2026, for video equipment replacement and facility improvements, then reopened on January 31. According to the reopening notice, winter operations end at 22:00, spring and autumn operations at 22:30, and summer operations at 23:00.

Past notices have sometimes announced different seasonal opening times and admission cutoffs, so on the day of your visit, check the official website or customer center at 1544-3303 for the opening time, last admission, and whether operations continue in rainy weather. The light displays are affected by the surrounding brightness, so it is also important to plan around the fact that the facility operates only after sunset.

DiPIRANG’s road-name address is 29 Nam mangongwon-gil, Tongyeong-si, Gyeongsangnam-do (Dongho-dong), and the inquiry telephone number is 1544-3303. The address provided by the user, “4 Dongchung 4-gil, 1st floor,” is not DiPIRANG’s official location, so enter “29 Nam mangongwon-gil” or “DiPIRANG” in your navigation system.

Parking is available at the Tongyeong Civic Cultural Center and DiPIRANG Public Parking Lots 1, 2, and 3. Tongyeong Tourism Development Corporation advises using DiPIRANG Public Parking Lots 1, 2, and 3 because the Civic Cultural Center may have limited space for large buses. According to publicly available parking data, DiPIRANG Public Parking Lot 2 has 30 spaces and charges 500 won for the first 30 minutes, 200 won for each additional 10 minutes, and 6,000 won per day, but parking fees and operating hours may change, so check the signs on site.

An Evening Route Connecting Dongpirang, Ganggugan, and DiPIRANG on the Same Day

Dongpirang takes its name from “the eastern bigeum,” with “bigeum” meaning cliff in the Tongyeong dialect, and is a hillside village overlooking Tongyeong Harbor and Ganggugan. Its current character as a mural village emerged when Tongyeong Agenda 21 organized a nationwide competition to paint murals in October 2007, and DiPIRANG’s story begins with the replacement murals of Dongpirang and Seopirang.

During the day, it is natural to visit Dongpirang, Ganggugan, and Nam mangsan Sculpture Park first, then enter DiPIRANG after sunset. DiPIRANG itself has a 1.5 km forest trail, so it is best to allow approximately 60–90 minutes, including photography and interactive experiences. As the route may include nighttime paths, slopes, and stairs, visitors with mobility difficulties and those using strollers should check accessible sections with 1544-3303 before setting out.

Why to Check Monday and Holiday Closures and Pet Restrictions Before Departure

Tourism information has recorded closures every Monday, closures on the following day when Monday is a public holiday, and closures on January 1 and the days of Lunar New Year and Chuseok. However, tourism data from another period lists Wednesday closures, so this differs from the latest notices. Therefore, do not treat the day off as fixed information; after deciding your travel date, confirm it through the official website dpirang.com and the customer center.

Tongyeong Tourism Development Corporation has stated that pets are not permitted, except guide dogs and assistance dogs. Although it is an outdoor park, dogs cannot enter the paid nighttime exhibition areas, so travelers with pets need to arrange separate care. Information on foreign-language guidance and wheelchair rentals was not found in the latest official notices, so visitors who need English assistance should contact the 1330 Travel Hotline or the DiPIRANG customer center in advance.
