Wolmido, Reading the Time of Incheon Port Through the 2.3 km Wolmi Dulle-gil and the Sea Train

Wolmido holds an important place in the history of the Korean War because of the terrain at the entrance to Incheon Port. The Archives of the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History contain recorded footage of the U.S. 5th Marine Regiment landing on Wolmido in September 1950, and Incheon City explains that the Incheon Landing Operation began on September 15, 1950.

Wolmi Park, centered on Wolmisan Mountain, is a park created by Incheon City after purchasing the former military area in 2001. Wolmi Park opens at 05:00 and closes at 22:00 in the winter season, and is open from 05:00 to 23:00 in the summer season. If you are taking a short walk, the 0.26 km Dalbitnuri-gil connecting the main park entrance to the information center and Wolmi Samgeori is the simplest route. If you want to see both the forest and the ridge, it is better to add the 0.58 km Sanmaru-gil to the 2.3 km Wolmi Dule-gil that circles Mannam Square. If you are coming from the Wolmimunhwa Street side, Wolmi Noul-gil is 0.13 km and Donde-gil is 0.1 km.

For strollers or wheelchairs, it is worth prioritizing the 0.4 km barrier-free route connecting Wolmi Stadium to Donde Samgeori. The park provides entrances that wheelchairs can pass through, ramps, parking spaces for disabled visitors, tactile blocks and tactile maps, and separate men’s and women’s restrooms; three strollers are available for free loan at the information center.

One loop from Wolmibada Station, on Wolmibada Sea Train linking four stations

If you want to quickly take in the Wolmido coastline and the park, you can place the Wolmibada Sea Train at the center of your route. It runs in a loop from Wolmibada Station, operating from 10:00 to 19:00 on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays from April to October; from 10:00 to 18:00 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during the same period; and from 10:00 to 18:00 from November to March. The regular holiday is every Monday, but if Monday is a public holiday it operates, then closes on the next first non-holiday.

On days when closing is at 18:00, the last train departs from Wolmibada Station at 17:10-17:15, and on days when closing is at 19:00, it departs at 18:10-18:15. The standard adult fare is 11,000 won on weekdays and 14,000 won on weekends, and Incheon residents pay 8,000 won regardless of the day. Seniors and youths pay 8,000 won on weekdays and 10,000 won on weekends, while children pay 7,000 won on weekdays and 8,000 won on weekends.

A same-day ticket allows one reboarding. If you have a receipt for a commercial facility within the Wolmido Tourist Special Zone, an additional reboarding is possible on weekdays only. Access from Incheon Station to Wolmi Park via Bus Nos. 2, 10, and 45

By rail, the official guide recommends getting off at Incheon Station on the Gyeongin and Suin lines, taking buses No. 2, 10, or 45, passing 8budo, and getting off at the 'Wolmi Park' stop. If you use the Wolmibada Sea Train, getting off at 'Wolmi Park Station' is possible. If you are heading directly to Wolmimunhwa Street around Incheon Station, there is also guidance to take bus No. 45 and get off at the 'Wolmimunhwa Street' stop.

Buses No. 2, 10, 15, 23, 28, 45, and 307 stop at Incheon Station. The center of Wolmido stretches lengthwise along Wolmimunhwa-ro, so separating the stops for the sea train, amusement facilities, and the cultural street from the stop used when heading up to Wolmi Park helps reduce walking distance.

For first-time visitors wanting to see all of Wolmido, the recommendation is 3 to 4 hours in total: 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes for Wolmi Park, about 1 hour including boarding and waiting for the Wolmibada Sea Train, and 40 minutes to 1 hour for the coastal walk along the cultural street. If slopes and stairs feel burdensome, it is more realistic to allocate time to the barrier-free route and the coastal promenade rather than the summit square.

The coast between the performance venue at Wolmimunhwa-ro 84 and the amusement facilities at Wolmimunhwa-ro 136

The address of the outdoor performance venue on Wolmido’s Cultural Street is 84 Wolmimunhwa-ro, Jung-gu, Incheon. The Incheon Jung-gu Cultural Foundation guide lists the nighttime rental period as 17:00-21:00, so on days with performance schedules, congestion and noise along the same coastal walking area may differ. If you are visiting for an event, you should check the organizer’s same-day notice separately.

The address of Wolmi Theme Park is listed as 136 Wolmimunhwa-ro, Jung-gu, Incheon. Wolmido is not a single facility where the park, sea train, and amusement rides are separated, but an area where places operated by different organizations are connected along the coastal road, so rather than looking for one 'Wolmido operating time,' you should check the times for each place you plan to visit.

The address near the indicated coordinates is 21-2 Wolmimunhwa-ro, Jung-gu, Incheon, floors 1 and 2. Since this is not the main entrance to all of Wolmido but the address of an individual building in the coastal commercial area, it is better to set your driving navigation destination to the first place in your actual itinerary among Wolmi Park, Wolmibada Station, or Wolmimunhwa Street.

Why you should check the Wolmi Park First and Second Parking Lots before the public parking lots on Wolmido

For private cars, the official route into Wolmi Park is from the end of the First and Second Gyeongin Expressways, passing the main gate of Incheon Port, Suin Sageori, the Incheon Jungbu Police Station, and Incheon Port 8 Budo. If your plan is centered on the park, entering the road-name address '131-22 Wolmiro, Jung-gu, Incheon' as your destination makes the route clearer than heading directly into the Cultural Street commercial district.

In the Wolmido area, public and private parking lots are mixed together, and the facilities and fee systems differ. In a past survey of the Wolmido Tourist Special Zone, the public parking lot at 98-142 Bukseong-dong 1-ga with 130 spaces, Wolmi Park Station with 65 spaces, the Museum of Korean Emigration History with 264 spaces, and the on-street parking area on Wolmido with 259 spaces were recorded as free parking, but current operation, fees, and whether they are full may differ, so you should check the managing institution’s notice just before departure.

Where parking fees cannot be confirmed in advance, you should make a judgment based on the conditions at the site. In particular, on weekends and public holidays, visitors to the coastal commercial district, amusement facilities, and the sea train use the same roads, so taking the bus from Incheon Station or combining the sea train with the park route is a way to reduce the risk of waiting for parking.

The Monday rule to observe when combining a single visit with the Museum of Korean Emigration History

The Museum of Korean Emigration History inside Wolmi Park is an option for understanding Wolmido in relation to the history of emigration from the port city of Incheon. It is open from 09:00 to 18:00, with last admission at 17:30, and is closed every Monday and on Lunar New Year’s Day and Chuseok day. However, Monday public holidays are excluded from the closing rule.

The museum also provides guidance to take bus No. 45 from Incheon Station and get off at the 'Incheon Marine High School' stop. Since the Wolmibada Sea Train is regularly closed on Mondays and the museum is also closed on Mondays, Monday itineraries should first compare whether it is a public holiday and check any change notices for each facility.

To tour the museum and Wolmi Park together, allow at least 2 hours; if you include the sea train and Cultural Street, 4 hours or more is safer. For travelers who only want the sea view and amusement rides, the museum section may feel long, but it is a meaningful detour if you want to understand that Wolmido was the gateway to Incheon Port and a place where memories of the Korean War and overseas migration overlap.
