Maninsan Natural Recreation Forest is located on Maninsan Mountain, on the border between Dong-gu, Daejeon Metropolitan City, and Geumsan-gun, Chungcheongnam-do. As of June 30, 2024, the recreation forest is registered as covering 1,850,000㎡, with a registered capacity of 5,000 people.
Daejeon Tourism introduces this place as a suburban recreation forest opened in 1997. Its main facilities include a forest classroom, outdoor stage, and adventure facilities, making it a destination designed not only for simple walks but also for nature education and outdoor activities.
From Afforestation in 1958 to a Recreation Forest in 1997
The Maninsan area is a forest where Chungcheongnam-do designated more than 600,000 pyeong of national forest as a forest division project beginning in 1958 and carried out afforestation and forest cultivation for 30 years. This long-term forest management forms the background of today’s dense broadleaf forest.
In 1989, when Daejeon was promoted to a directly governed city, the city acquired more than 600,000 pyeong of Maninsan national forest from Chungcheongnam-do free of charge. During the Joseon period, the mountain was known for its beautiful terrain and was introduced as the mountain where the placenta chambers of King Taejo and his princes were enshrined. The presence of the Historic Site of King Taejo’s Placenta Chamber, Registered Cultural Heritage No. 131, within the recreation forest also provides historical context for the current facilities.
Taking Bus 501 from Complex Terminal Stop 11-830
If departing from Daejeon Complex Terminal, take Bus 501 at the nearby Complex Terminal (11-830) stop and get off at the Maninsan Recreation Forest stop. The walk from the stop to the recreation forest is described as taking one minute, so travelers unfamiliar with Daejeon can show the stop name to the driver.

Forest Open from 09:00 with Free Registered Admission
According to the official Daejeon Tourism guide, hours are 09:00–18:00 in summer and 09:00–17:00 in winter. These hours were listed as of August 14, 2025, and the closing time varies by one hour depending on the season.
Admission is registered as free in public information. However, the current detailed parking fee schedule for general visitors, closure days, monthly operating hours, and admission closing time could not be confirmed. From the Learning Farm to Crossing the Swing Bridge: How Much Should You See?
The recreation forest contains a learning farm, nature observation trail, Maninru Pavilion, and Maninsan rest area. The official facility layout also indicates a children’s forest experience center, walking trails, a pond, and a rest-area fountain, allowing you to plan separately for a short walk or a visit with children.
Nature-learning facilities include a learning center, exhibition hall, observatory, learning farm, adventure facilities, outdoor stage, and exhibition forest. Children’s activity facilities include crossing the swing bridge, crossing the cliff bridge, and walking a single rope. Although the guide states that safety equipment is well provided, the schedule of currently operating programs and whether reservations are required could not be confirmed.
Plan Separately for a 1–2 Hour Walk and an Overnight Forest Stay
Visitor reviews introduce the recreation forest as taking one to two hours to explore. The actual length of your stay may vary depending on whether you use only the walking trails quickly or also visit the learning farm, nature observation trail, Maninru Pavilion, and Maninsan rest area.
Accommodations include forest cabins and camping sites, while a picnic area and children’s playground are also available. Check-in begins at 15:00 on the day of arrival, and check-out is by 11:00 the following day. If you will arrive late, contact the management office in advance.
Conditions for First-Come, First-Served Reservations at 09:00 on the First of Each Month
Accommodation reservations and payments are available on a first-come, first-served basis through the Soopnadole website starting at 09:00 on the first day of each month; reservations by telephone are not available. The peak season runs from July 1 through August 31 each year, and weekends are defined as Fridays, Saturdays, and the day before public holidays.
If the number of guests exceeds the standard occupancy, an additional fee of 5,000 won per person is charged, with up to two additional people permitted. Guests with room reservations can park free of charge, but the number of spaces and fees for general visitors could not be confirmed. Cooking foods such as grilled dishes is prohibited inside the accommodations, and violations may result in removal from the premises. Pets are not allowed inside the accommodations or buildings.
Differences in Use Between the 100,000-Won Main Auditorium and Forest Spaces
For group visits, the main auditorium costs 100,000 won for four hours, with an additional fee of 20,000 won per hour for extended use. The sports field also costs 100,000 won for four hours, with an additional fee of 20,000 won per hour.
The conference room costs 50,000 won for four hours, with an additional fee of 10,000 won per hour for extended use. Therefore, budget separately for general admission, which is registered as free, and facilities with separate usage fees, such as the main auditorium, sports field, and conference room.
Entrance Limitations for Wheelchair and Stroller Users
Accessibility information indicates that there are no accessible restrooms or elevators, and no designated accessible parking spaces. The main entrance has a step, and wheelchair and stroller rental services are unavailable.
Direct access by subway and access by low-floor bus are also listed as unavailable. Therefore, wheelchair or stroller users should not plan solely around the one-minute walk after getting off Bus 501; they should first consider assistance from companions and the possibility of vehicle access.
