The Old Ferry Crossing Where the Nakdonggang and Geumhogang Rivers Meet
Samunjin was a ferry crossing at the point where the Nakdonggang and Geumhogang Rivers converge, serving as a gateway to Daegu. After Samunjin Bridge was built in 1993, it lost its ferry-crossing function, and Dalseong-gun developed the riverside area, where traces of ferry culture remained, into a waterfront park in 2013.
It is said that the first piano in Korea entered the country through Samunjin Ferry in 1900. Today, the Tavern Village has a monument commemorating the piano’s arrival and a Piano Plaza, making it more than just a restaurant: it is also a space that preserves memories of this former transportation hub.
The Tavern Village Covering About 2,600 Pyeong, Opened in November 2013
Samunjin Tavern Village opened in November 2013 on a site of about 2,600 pyeong, set against a 500-year-old hackberry tree. Three traditional tavern buildings in the hanok style were refurbished to recreate the atmosphere of old traveling merchants, forming the basis of today’s layout.
The facility covers 8,882㎡, and its main facilities include the Tavern Village, Tavern Café, and excursion boats. Nearby are the monument commemorating the piano’s arrival, a monument marking the filming location of The Ownerless Ferryboat, a lantern tower, foot-washing platform, floating dock, and Piano Plaza, providing clear places to explore after a meal.
Check the Monthly Hours and Monday Closure First
The Tavern Village is closed every Monday; if Monday is a public holiday, it closes the following day. In January and February, operating hours are 11:30–18:30, with last orders at 17:50. In March and April and in November, hours are 11:30–19:00, with last orders at 18:20. In December, hours return to 11:30–18:30, with last orders at 17:50.
The official chart does not specify the monthly operating hours from May through October. The weekday break is 15:00–16:00, while the weekend and public-holiday break is 15:30–16:00. Hours may vary depending on the season and on-site circumstances, so visitors planning a late-afternoon meal should arrive before the last-order time.
How to Order Gukbap and Jeon After Free Admission
Admission to Samunjin Tavern Village itself is free. Food is charged separately. According to the official menu, beef-gukbap costs 7,000 won, banquet noodles 5,000 won, buckwheat dumpling pancakes 5,000 won, chive pancakes 6,500 won, handmade tofu 6,500 won, and seasoned acorn jelly 6,500 won.
Handmade king sausage is listed at 3,000 won, while soju and makgeolli each cost 3,500 won. Meals can be enjoyed in thatched cottages, arbors, and outdoor areas, and high chairs for infants and toddlers are available inside the Tavern Village. Since it has not been confirmed whether payment is cash-only or whether cards and mobile payments are accepted, it is safer not to plan a visit relying on just one payment method.
Meal Times When You May Receive a Numbered Waiting Ticket on Weekends
A visit review dated February 26, 2020, says that there were many weekend visitors and that the reviewer waited a long time even after receiving a numbered ticket. Although the exact time when the wait began has not been confirmed, visitors coming primarily for a weekend meal may benefit from arriving near the start of operating hours rather than just before last orders.
According to guidance from the Korea Tourism Organization and visitor reviews, the recommended viewing and stay time is about two hours. A schedule focused only on eating quickly may take less time, but allowing two hours is realistic if you want to see the walking paths, Piano Plaza, hackberry tree, and monuments before or after your meal.
Getting There by Bus 650 or Dalseo 3 and Parking for Free
According to information from Dalseong-gun, public transportation options include city bus routes 650 and Dalseo 3. The exact stop name, walking distance after getting off, and subway connections have not been confirmed, so foreign travelers using only buses should check the stop location for the day in a map app.
The address is 40-12 Samunjin-ro 1-gil, Hwawon-eup, Dalseong-gun, Daegu. The lot-based address is 313-1 Seongsan-ri, Hwawon-eup, Dalseong-gun, Daegu. Step-Free Main Entrance and Riverside Walking Route
The main entrance has no steps, and wheelchair access is indicated. Facilities include five accessible parking spaces, an accessible restroom, and ramps. Accessible seating is available in the Tavern Village and on the excursion boats, and official tourism information also lists high chairs for infants and toddlers.
However, the actual operation of the excursion boats, the day’s service intervals, and the availability of English signs and audio guides have not been confirmed. Walking paths and a fountain are located around the Tavern Village, which is also introduced as a place for Nakdonggang views and sunsets, making it suitable to combine a daytime meal with a riverside walk.

Samunjin Tavern Village is introduced as a place to enjoy sunsets over the Nakdonggang. During the day, explore the 500-year-old hackberry tree, piano-related facilities, walking paths, and fountain. After sunset, you can see the nighttime landscape created by LED Milky Way lights and sailboat sculptures featured in a December 2020 report.
The main appeal of the Tavern Village is not spending a long time viewing indoor exhibits, but understanding the context of the old ferry crossing and connecting the food experience with the riverside scenery. Since photography restrictions and foreign-language guidance have not been confirmed, travelers who require photography or explanations should inquire in advance.
