1973 and 1988: When Wolchulsan Above the Naju Plain Became a National Park

Wolchulsan National Park is a mountainous national park designated across Yeongam-gun and Gangjin-gun in Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City. As an isolated mountain range rising from the broad Naju Plain, its rocky peaks appear to suddenly tower above the surrounding plains. Gujeongbong, Sajabong, Dogapbong, and Jujibong extend from east to west around Cheonhwangbong. The mountain is characterized by concentrated rocky peaks and cliffs, which is why Wolchulsan is also introduced as the “Sogeumgang of Honam.”

How to Walk to the 52 m Cloud Bridge Between Maebong and Sajabong

The signature destination in the Cheonhwang District is the Cloud Bridge. Connecting Maebong and Sajabong, it is 52 m long, located at an elevation of 605 m, and suspended 120 m above the ground. It was first built in 1978 and replaced with a modern structure in May 2006.

According to visitor reviews, the one-way walk from the Cheonhwang Trail Support Center to the Cloud Bridge takes approximately 40 minutes to 1 hour.
