Best Time to Visit

Jeonnam Suncheonman National Garden: Seasons—Spring and Autumn

Suncheonman National Garden is well maintained throughout all four seasons, so it is pleasant to visit at any time, but the most comfortable seasons are spring and autumn. The weather is mild, making it nice for a long walk through the garden. You can also visit in summer and early autumn, but the midday sun can be strong, so the morning is more comfortable.

Within the day, a morning visit is most recommended. It is relatively cool and there are fewer visitors, so you can enjoy the garden more leisurely. As the afternoon goes on, the number of visitors may increase.

For the day of the week, weekdays are best. Weekends tend to be busier, so if you want a quiet and comfortable atmosphere, a weekday morning is ideal. If you plan to also explore nearby Suncheon Bay Wetland, it is better to allow plenty of time.

In short, the best conditions for a visit are a weekday morning in spring or autumn. With fewer people and easy walking conditions, it is the most practical choice for international travelers.

How Long to Stay

If you visit Suncheonman National Garden quickly, 1.5 to 2 hours is enough, but if you want to leisurely see the main gardens and photo spots, 3 to 4 hours is typical. If you also plan to visit nearby attractions such as Suncheon Bay Wetland, it is better to set aside half a day to a full day.

How to Get There

Suncheonman National Garden is most conveniently reached by city bus from Suncheon Station or the Suncheon Intercity Bus Terminal. For international travelers, considering both taxis and buses can make getting around easier.

Subway

Suncheon does not have an urban subway like Seoul. Usually, you arrive at Suncheon Station by KTX/regular train and then continue by bus or on foot.

Bus

Departing from Suncheon Station
Exit Suncheon Station, cross the traffic light in front, and take the bus at Pungdeok Elementary School Bus Stop. Take Bus 66 or 200 and get off at National Garden (East Gate) Bus Stop.

Departing from Suncheon Intercity Bus Terminal
Take Bus 66, 67, or 101 from the bus stop in front of Nonghyup across from the terminal or from the Suncheon Intercity Bus Terminal Bus Stop. Get off at National Garden (East Gate) Bus Stop.

Tip
The bus fare is the standard city bus fare, and having a transit card is convenient. Bus routes and operating times may change, so check once more on site before boarding.

Walking

It is somewhat far to walk directly from the Suncheon Intercity Bus Terminal, so taking a bus is recommended. Even from Suncheon Station, a bus is much more practical than walking. When going to the main gate or east gate, you usually get off at National Garden (East Gate) Bus Stop and walk for a few minutes following the signs.

Photo Spots

  • French Garden: This is a famous photo spot known for its stylish visual appeal. Stand on the central garden path or in front of the symmetrical flower beds and photograph it while facing the garden head-on for a clean composition. If you go before 10:00 AM, it is relatively quiet and good for taking photos.
  • Spring Flower Garden Area: This is the most popular spot during the full-bloom season. Set your camera so that the flower beds and walking path are both visible from beside the flower road, and the colors will come out beautifully. A visit in the early morning, when there are fewer people and the light is soft, is recommended.
  • Central Walkway: This is a basic point that is great for capturing the spacious atmosphere of Suncheonman National Garden in one shot. Stand in the center of the path and shoot toward the interior of the garden to get a photo with a strong sense of depth. Before 10:00 AM is the most comfortable time for shooting.
