From the 2013 Expo Site to Korea’s First National Garden
Suncheon Bay National Garden was created for the 2013 Suncheon Bay International Garden Expo. Suncheon City established the garden in the Dosa-dong area to reduce the ecological burden on the coastal wetlands of Suncheon Bay, and continued operating it as a garden after the expo ended.
Under the Act on the Creation and Promotion of Arboretums and Gardens, this is Korea’s first designated national garden. Facilities listed in the official ordinance include the Suncheon Bay International Wetland Center, Korean Garden, Dream Bridge, World Gardens, Suncheon Lake Garden, arboretum, Dongcheon Tidal-flat Performance Venue, and an auxiliary parking lot.

Official national garden information lists general visiting hours as 09:00–20:00 and ticket sales from 09:00 to 19:00, so visitors should check whether there have been any changes in the official notices on the day of their visit.
The regular closing day is the last Monday of each month. In August 2026, the closing day is August 31; experience facilities that would normally close on a public holiday Monday may instead close on the following weekday. How to Connect Suncheon Station with the West and East Gates by Buses 66 and 101
Suncheon city buses directly connect Suncheon Station with the national garden. Bus 66 connects Suncheon Station, the Intercity Bus Terminal, Suncheonman Garden, and Suncheon Bay, and is listed as operating 30 times a day at approximately 30–40-minute intervals. Bus 101 is a circular route that passes through both the West and East Gates of Suncheon Bay National Garden, operating 60 times a day at approximately 10–20-minute intervals. Bus 69 also reaches the West Gate via Suncheon Station and the Intercity Bus Terminal, but operates only seven times a day at intervals of 150–200 minutes, so checking the timetable is essential.

Why You Should Not Miss Suncheon Lake Garden, Dream Bridge, and the World Gardens
Suncheon Lake Garden is one of the national garden’s representative garden facilities, and, together with the World Gardens, Korean Garden, and Dream Bridge, is a viewing area specified in the ordinance. Because the garden is extensive, walking without a map can lead to long travel times. It is therefore advisable to obtain the day’s program and a route map from the information center immediately after entering.
Dream Bridge is a symbolic passage linking the garden areas, while the Suncheon Bay International Wetland Center provides an indoor viewing option. On hot summer days, visitors can reduce the strain of getting around by alternating indoor spaces and shaded sections rather than walking continuously through the outdoor gardens.

The experience facilities operate from Tuesday through Sunday and close every Monday. If Monday is a public holiday, the facility will be closed on the following weekday. If you plan to use SkyCube or the Garden Dream Boat, it is better to schedule them earlier in the day, taking waiting and boarding times into account, rather than after viewing the main gardens.

Check Restrictions on Food, Pets, and Kick Scooters Before Setting Out
The operating ordinance of Suncheon Bay National Garden restricts bringing in food, entering with pets, and bringing wheeled devices such as bicycles, inline skates, and kick scooters, in order to protect the gardens and ensure visitor safety. Exceptions include guide dogs for people with visual impairments, strollers, wheelchairs, and management vehicles arranged in advance.
Children under seven who are unaccompanied by a guardian may be denied entry, and entry may also be restricted for anyone carrying dangerous or flammable materials. If you plan to walk long distances, keep your belongings and clothing light, and if traveling with children, pay particular attention to the requirement that they be accompanied by a guardian.

During the spring flower season and holiday periods, waits for entry, parking-lot access, and paid experience facilities may all increase at the same time, so visiting just after opening in the morning or later in the afternoon is relatively advantageous.
In summer, information center hours are extended until 19:00 from May to September, but trying to see the entire garden in a short time can involve excessive walking. For visits focused on photography and garden viewing, three hours centered on Lake Garden and the World Gardens is recommended; if you also use the experience facilities, allow four to six hours.
