Windy Hill, from Dojangpo’s farmland to one of Geoje’s nine scenic wonders
Geoje’s Windy Hill is a coastal hill beside Dojangpo Port in Nambu-myeon, offering views of a windmill and the waters of Hallyeohaesang National Park. This free outdoor attraction is often windy, and weekend parking congestion is common, so it is best to combine the Dojangpo cruise, Sinseondae and Haegeumgang in one itinerary while allowing extra time for travel and preparing for the wind.

Why a Windmill Was Installed in the Dojangpo Farmland in 2004
Windy Hill is a grassy hill on the northern coast of Dojangpo Village in Nambu-myeon, Geoje-si, Gyeongsangnam-do. Geoje City materials introduce this area as part of Hallyeohaesang National Park, while the Geoje tourism map shows Windy Hill, Sinseondae, the Dojangpo cruise boat dock, and Haegeumgang in succession along the southern coast.
According to materials from the Korea Rural Economic Institute, cruise tourism in Dojangpo Village had been operating since 1994 based at the local fishing port of Dojangpo Port. During the 2004 fishing village experience program, a windmill was installed on a seaside hill where crop productivity was low. The hill was later named “Windy Hill,” becoming a tourism hub connecting the fishing port, cruise boat dock, and coastal scenery.

Dojangpo Port and the Coastline Matter More for the View Than the Single Windmill
The hill’s landmark is a single wooden windmill. However, the windmill is more of a marker that anchors the view, while Dojangpo Port and the islands and coastline of the South Sea also fill the actual field of vision. Visitor accounts mention wooden decks and benches around the windmill, so even during a short stay, it is best to take in the harbor below and the sea from separate viewpoints.
Because the sea-facing side is exposed cliff terrain, the perceived temperature can change even on days with light winds. A hat or light outer layer that can be secured with a strap or zipper is practical, while umbrellas are difficult to use in strong winds. Rather than going beyond the railing to the cliff edge for photographs, it is safer to stay on the deck and walking paths and capture the windmill, harbor, and sea together.

Free Admission and Open at All Times, but Do Not Expect Nighttime Facilities
Windy Hill is an outdoor scenic site with free admission and is open at all times. Since no separate ticket office or closing time has been confirmed, it is realistic to plan to travel and finish sightseeing before sunset. No regular closing days have been identified either.
No dedicated phone number or independent official website for the site itself has been confirmed. For on-site inquiries, it is better to contact the Geoje City Tourism Department’s Tourism Marketing Team at 055-639-4174 or the Geoje City Tourism Department at 055-639-4176. Geoje City’s official tourism map presents Windy Hill together with Sinseondae, Haegeumgang, and the Dojangpo cruise boat service in southern Geoje.
- Operations: Open at all times
- Closing days: No separate closing days confirmed
- Admission: Free
- Reservations: No reservation information for entry to the hill itself

How to Avoid Parking Congestion at Dojangpo Port from 13 Dadae 5-gil
The address is 13 Dadae 5-gil, Nambu-myeon, Geoje-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, and the provided coordinates are 34.734371° N, 128.630472° E. Parking spaces are available around Dojangpo Village and the cruise boat dock, but local reports indicate that traffic and parking shortages can occur on weekends when cruise passengers and hill visitors arrive at the same time.
In a 2025 special public notice, Geoje City proposed a project to build a tourist bus parking lot in the area around 309-1 Galgot-ri, Nambu-myeon. If traveling by car, consider arriving early in the morning or walking from another nearby area where parking is available rather than insisting on parking close to Dojangpo Port. Parking fees vary by operator and are difficult to state uniformly.
Wheelchair and stroller users can view the harbor and the scenery at the base of the hill using only the gentler sections, but should take the grassy slopes and wind on the outdoor decks into account. Since the availability of accessible routes throughout the site, accessible restrooms, and foreign-language on-site guidance could not be officially confirmed, it is safest to contact the Geoje City Tourism Department before departure if needed.

Dojangpo Stop and Bus 55-1: Check the Schedule First for Public Transportation
For public transportation, travelers are known to set “Dojangpo” or “Dojangpo (Windy Hill)” bus stop as their destination. Route information based on public data includes Dojangpo on the stop list for Geoje City Bus 55-1, while older Geoje-area guides introduced routes in the 400 series as stopping at Dojangpo.
However, coastal routes in Nambu-myeon may have changes in the number and timing of services, making it difficult to treat a specific departure time or interval as fixed information. If departing from places such as Gohyeon Bus Terminal, first check the same-day Geoje City bus information for the arrival time at Dojangpo Stop and the last bus. After getting off, expect a short uphill walk to the entrance to Windy Hill.
- Destination stop: Dojangpo or Dojangpo (Windy Hill)
- Confirmed route example: Bus 55-1 stop information for Dojangpo
- Note: For southern coastal routes, checking the same-day timetable before departure is recommended
- Recommended visit duration: 30–60 minutes for the hill alone; 1–2 hours including Sinseondae and Dojangpo Port
How to Combine Sinseondae, Haegeumgang, and the Dojangpo Cruise Boat on the Same Day
Geoje City’s tourism map shows Sinseondae, the Dojangpo cruise boat service, and Haegeumgang together immediately near Windy Hill. Therefore, if traveling by car, seeing Windy Hill first and then moving to Sinseondae can reduce unnecessary travel. If you plan to take a cruise, arrange the sequence around the boarding time at Dojangpo Port.
Cruise boats heading toward Haegeumgang and Oedo are affected by sea conditions and the operating policies of each cruise company. Rather than trying to board spontaneously after visiting the hill, check the departure time, meeting time, and parking location in advance. If you are not taking a boat, Windy Hill and Sinseondae alone offer views of coastal cliffs and the harbor, making them a suitable choice for a southern Nambu-myeon driving itinerary lasting less than half a day.
The Significance of Being Selected Three Consecutive Times for the 2017–2022 100 Must-Visit Tourist Spots of Korea
Windy Hill was selected three consecutive times for the 100 Must-Visit Tourist Spots of Korea by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization: for 2017–2018, 2019–2020, and 2021–2022. Material released by Geoje City on February 3, 2021, describes it as one of Geoje’s representative tourist destinations and part of Hallyeohaesang National Park.
This selection history can be understood to mean that Windy Hill is not merely a place to see one windmill, but a destination where cruise tourism, fishing villages, and coastal scenery in southern Geoje come together. A coastal landscape color demonstration project in Dojangpo Village, launched in October 2015 and completed in November 2016, also led to improvements to alleys and retaining walls. After getting out of the car, examining the village scenery around the harbor as well can help visitors understand how the area has changed.

Travelers Who May Not Enjoy Strong Winds or Weekend Crowds, and When to Visit
Windy Hill is not an indoor exhibition or experience facility, but a place for walking on and viewing an exposed coastal hill. Strong winds, rain, extreme heat, or severe cold can make it difficult to stay for long, and a short visit may be more suitable for travelers who feel unsteady walking on cliffs or grassy slopes.
On weekends and holidays, cars may become congested as cruise passengers add to the traffic around Dojangpo. If photography and walking are your main goals, consider early morning or late afternoon outside the busiest cruise departure period. Even though the site is open at all times, it is best to finish coastal walks before sunset. If weather conditions worsen, such as during a high-wind advisory or heavy-rain warning, reconsider the visit along with any Haegeumgang cruise plans.
- What to bring: Windbreaker, a hat that can be secured, and shoes with good grip
- Conditions to avoid: High-wind, heavy-rain, or typhoon advisories; peak weekend cruise hours
- Visit duration: 30–60 minutes for the windmill and hill alone; 1–2 hours including the harbor and Sinseondae
- On-site inquiries: Geoje City Tourism Department, 055-639-4174 or 055-639-4176
