Best Time to Visit
Sejong Lake Park is open year-round and is usually available from 05:00 to 23:00, so visiting hours are relatively flexible. For foreign travelers, spring and fall, when the weather is most pleasant, are the most recommended seasons. During these periods, it is comfortable to walk and pleasant to stay longer.
Within the day, early morning or the time from sunset to early evening is best. It is less hot than during the daytime and easier to walk, allowing you to enjoy the park more leisurely overall. Midsummer afternoons can be hot and feel tiring, so it is better to avoid them.
If you want to avoid crowds, visiting on weekdays from Tuesday to Thursday is the safest choice. Weekends and public holidays tend to be busier because of more visitors. In particular, evenings can bring more walkers, so if you want a quiet atmosphere, a weekday morning is the best option.
Staying for about 2 to 3 hours is generally ideal. The park is wheelchair accessible, so mobility is also fairly convenient.
How Long to Stay
If you are just taking a light stroll, 45 minutes to 1 hour is enough. If you want to leisurely see the lake perimeter and major points of interest, about 1.5 to 2 hours is appropriate. If you plan to enjoy the fountain schedule or night views, or also visit nearby Sejong City attractions, it is better to set aside about half a day.
How to Get There
Sejong Lake Park is not directly connected to the subway, so the most convenient way is to take a bus from a train station or bus terminal.
Subway + Bus
Sejong City does not have a subway station. For foreign travelers, the most practical method is to first travel to Sejong by train or express bus from Seoul or elsewhere, then transfer to a city bus.
The most commonly used departure point is Jochiwon Station. From Jochiwon Station, use the following routes.
- Take Bus 801 → get off at Third Parking Lot stop
- Take Bus 601 or 550 → transfer to Bus 222 at Dodam-dong (Doraem Village) → get off at National Sejong Library stop
Subway exit numbers do not apply here. Sejong Lake Park is a bus-centered city, so it is important to check the bus stop name rather than the station exit.
Bus
If departing from Sejong Express Intercity Bus Terminal, take Bus 205 and get off at the National Sejong Library main gate stop.
In Sejong City, you can use BRT and regular city buses together. The most convenient stops for your destination are National Sejong Library, National Sejong Library main gate, and Third Parking Lot.
On Foot
If you get off at the National Sejong Library or National Sejong Library main gate stop, it is easy to walk to the lake park. After getting off the bus, simply follow the signs toward the lake.
You can also access the park from the Third Parking Lot stop. Walking time varies depending on where you get off, but it is usually about 5 to 15 minutes.
Tip: Bus routes and intervals may change, so check the stop name again in your map app before departure.
Photo Spots
- Waterfront Deck: This is Sejong Lake Park's signature photo spot. Stand facing the Mulkkot Island direction and frame the shot so that the Water Stage Island and the Presidential Archives appear together in the background. On clear days, it is also great for capturing Osan, Wonsusan, Jejilsan, Hyeongjebong, and Jeonwolsan in a single frame. Late morning to sunset offers soft light that works well for landscape photography.
- Lakeside walking path with Mulkkot Island in view: This is a great spot to capture both aquatic plants and the waterside atmosphere. If you shoot while facing directly toward the island, the natural background stands out nicely. For portrait photos, morning is relatively less crowded, and for landscape shots, evening offers better color.
- Section with open views of Water Stage Island: It is great for photographing the stage-like structure together with the lake. Shooting broadly toward the stage island and the water space captures Sejong Lake Park's modern atmosphere well. Try for reflections and silhouette shots during the sunset hour.
- Around the Waterplay Island and sandy beach: This is a place where you can create a seaside-in-the-city feel. Shooting from a low angle while facing the lake brings sand and water into the frame and gives a resort-like impression. Late afternoon is the most natural time, while midday light can be strong and create high contrast.
- Open area around Festival Island: Suitable for photos that need a sense of spaciousness. If you shoot with your gaze toward the center of the lake, the scale of the park is well expressed. For empty scenes, early morning is best, and for a lively atmosphere, sunset on weekends is ideal.
Night View
The night view of Sejong Lake Park is highlighted by the lights of the water stage and Seho Bridge leading to it. The lighting reflected on the bridge and water stage changes over time, and the reflections on the lake are especially beautiful.
The atmosphere is relatively relaxed and romantic, making it well suited for an evening walk or a quiet picnic. You can comfortably enjoy the night view around the central plaza, the lakeside walking path, and the sunbed area.
The recommended time is from just after sunset until 10:30 p.m. The dazzling night lighting operates only until 11:00 p.m., so it is best to visit before it gets too late.
At night, it is best enjoyed as a light walk with night-view viewing. Depending on the season or timing, it may also be connected with Sejong City's night programs or evening stroll courses. Checking the local event schedule before visiting is recommended.
Seasonal Guide
Sejong Lake Park is a large lake park where the walking atmosphere changes clearly with each season. Foreign travelers will enjoy taking in both the scenery and the night lighting depending on when they visit.
Spring: Cherry blossoms begin to bloom in late March, and the entire park is at its brightest until the Chinese fringe tree flowers are in full bloom in early May. It is a great time to walk along the cherry tree path or take photos on the lakeside trails.
Summer: With wide walking paths and waterside spaces along the lake, it is especially good for evening walks. After sunset, you can enjoy the park lights, water stage, and bridge area night views together, making a cooler time of day the practical choice for a visit.
Autumn: The autumn foliage forest and the metasequoia section are especially beautiful. In late November, the metasequoias turn red and create the most impressive scenery, and the long walking paths are great for enjoying the fall colors.
Winter: In winter, the charm comes less from flowers and more from the quiet lake scenery and night lighting. After sunset, you can enjoy a calm evening walk centered around the illuminated park lights and major facilities.
Practical tip: Night lighting generally operates after sunset, and some sections are available until 10:00 p.m. or 11:00 p.m. Representative seasonal walking paths include the pine tree path, cherry tree path, wild grass path, and autumn foliage forest.
