Samseongcheon Stream Stretching from Daljeon-ri, Geumnam-myeon, to the Geumgang River
Samseongcheon Stream originates in Daljeon-ri, Geumnam-myeon, Sejong Special Self-Governing City, and joins the Geumgang River near Sejong-dong. Rather than being a facility viewed from a single point, it is more accurate to understand it as a place for enjoying waterside scenery along the walking and bicycle paths on both banks between Jiphyeon-dong and Bangok-dong.
River wetlands combining sedimentary sandbars and waterside vegetation have developed along both banks. Records indicate that fish inhabit the stream and that egrets, cormorants, and ducks can be observed, so instead of seeing only the musical fountain and leaving, it is well worth walking to sections where the water and vegetation are visible. Baeguncheon, Guryongcheon, Cheondongcheon, and Yucheoncheon are mentioned as major tributaries of Samseongcheon.
The 2020 Musical Fountain at 791-27, Bangok-dong
The Samseongcheon Musical Fountain is a streamside fountain facility at 791-27, Bangok-dong, Sejong Special Self-Governing City. Construction took place from 2019 to 2020, completion was in March 2020, the total floor area is 235 ㎡, and operations began in 2020.
The surrounding area includes Dolmen Plaza, the musical fountain, and murals. Relief murals around the musical fountain feature the Cheonsang Yeolcha Bunya Jido star map and the Four Guardian Deities, while the story murals depict prehistoric constellations, Our Sky and Our Constellations encountered by King Sejong, and constellations of the present and future.
From May to October, at 19:30 and 20:30
The musical fountain operates annually from May through October, with performances at 19:30 and 20:30. Each session lasts 20 minutes, so it is best to arrive a little before the scheduled start time. The musical fountain itself is an outdoor streamside facility for which no separate admission fee is listed.
It stops operating every Monday for facility inspections. Temporary closures may also occur in rain or severe weather, and operations may be suspended when hourly precipitation reaches 5 mm or more. Whether it is operating that day is announced on the fountain display board, the “Sejong En” app, and the Park Management Office website.
Plan the August water-play facility separately as a children’s activity
The Samseongcheon water-play facility is presented with the same location information as the musical fountain at 791-27, Bangok-dong, while the water-play area itself is located at 13-35, Bangok-dong, Sejong Special Self-Governing City. The facility covers 860㎡, has a water capacity of 172m³, and admission is free. The basic operating period is August 1–31 each year, with hours from 10:00 to 17:00.
The standard schedule includes a 10-minute break every hour, and the facility is closed every Monday for regular inspections and water replacement. A 2026 notice separately listed August 6–30, 2026, with 50 minutes of operation and a 10-minute break per session, a lunch break from 13:00 to 14:00, and children aged 13 or younger as eligible users. Aqua shoes are required, and temporary closures may occur in rain or severe weather. Therefore, adult-oriented waterside walks and children’s water play should not be assumed to follow the same operating hours.
An order for reading the stories of Sejong’s constellations at Dolmen Plaza
Samseongcheon Dolmen Plaza introduces pillar-type, supported-stone, go-board-style (southern-style), and table-type (northern-style) dolmens. Thus, this is not merely a resting spot along a walking route, but an outdoor space arranged so visitors can compare different forms of prehistoric tombs.
The murals around Dolmen Plaza and the musical fountain connect prehistoric constellations, King Sejong and our sky, and the constellations of the present and future. By visiting the stream walking path and bicycle road, Dolmen Plaza, and the murals in sequence, visitors can take in both the waterside ecology and Sejong’s historical and scientific imagery at once.
Approaching from the National Research Complex toward Bangok-dong Surubae Village
The list of B0 bus stops available in public transportation information includes the National Research Complex and Bangok-dong (Surubae Village). First-time visitors should set “Samseongcheon Water-Play Area” or “Samseongcheon Musical Fountain” as the destination in a map app, then cross-check which of the two B0 stops is the actual place to get off.
The facility address confirmed in official information is 13-35, Bangok-dong, Sejong Special Self-Governing City, while the Samseongcheon Musical Fountain is listed at 791-27, Bangok-dong. The road-name address for the entire park, station exits and walking distance after getting off, and the recommended time required for the whole park were not found in the public information. No dedicated parking lot for the facility itself is separately indicated in the official guidance. When visiting the musical fountain, visitors may use the underground parking lot at the nearby City Symbol Plaza, where parking fees may apply.
Night walks and waterbird watching are different visiting experiences
Walking reviews mention scenes in which the lights of nearby apartment buildings come on after sunset and are reflected on the surface of Samseongcheon. They also describe watching egrets hunt fish before darkness falls and the lights turn on, so visitors who want to photograph the night scenery can combine a waterside walk with the musical fountain session around 19:30.
However, no confirmed public information is available on photography-restricted areas throughout Samseongcheon, access-control boundaries, English guidance or audio guides, wheelchair and stroller accessibility, or the condition of slopes, stairs, and walking surfaces. Within the confirmed scope, the park’s overall operating hours, closing days, and admission fee are also not separately provided; the Samseongcheon water-play facility is the only item explicitly stated to be free. The waterfront park plan along the Geumgang River in Sejong was presented as approximately 5.1 km long, covering 247,000㎡, with a width of 35–85 m (average 50 m). The plan includes planting approximately 6,300 trees, including pine, king oak, and metasequoia, so Samseongcheon can be understood within a larger Geumgang waterfront concept intended to connect urban waterside areas with walking and ecological observation.
In that plan, Section 5, from the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements to Samseongcheon, has the theme “Wind” and was designed as a space where visitors can visually experience the wind through areas such as the Grass Garden. Reports also state that the Samseongcheon waterside space focused on creating an inclusive area where people with and without disabilities could come together, linked with the Bangok-dong Regional Welfare Support Center and the Accessible National Sports Center. However, the specific level of accessibility facilities has not been separately confirmed.
