Maze Land is an outdoor maze park that opened on April 14, 2011. It gives shape to Jeju’s three abundances—wind, women, and stone—through the Wind Maze, Women’s Maze, and Stone Maze. The development plan was approved in October 2006, and construction of the stone walls for the Dol Hareubang Maze began in October 2008.

The site began with the planting of landscaping trees from the 1970s onward. After the young trees grew into forests, they became the maze boundaries. The Wind Maze contains 2,709 western red cedars, while the Women’s Maze contains 2,922 trees, including sasanqua camellias and Leyland cypresses.

Three Outdoor Mazes Interpreted Through Dol Hareubang, Typhoons, and Haenyeo

The Stone Maze takes the form of a reclining dol hareubang, with stone walls built from 100,000 pieces of Jeju basalt to recreate the stone-wall scenery of the Jeju Olle trails. The Wind Maze is modeled on the spiral shape of a typhoon, while the Women’s Maze takes inspiration from haenyeo returning after diving for seafood.

Rather than planning an itinerary that includes only the mazes, it is better to allow two to three hours, including the museum and observatory. In addition to the three mazes, the park is divided into Aejiyang-gil, a bamboo forest, a vine tunnel, a lawn plaza, the Light Labyrinth, Jeju Mythology Sculpture Park, a rose garden, Hydrangea Road, a camellia forest, and the Pink Muhly Olle Trail.

Operating hours vary by season. From November to January, the park is open from 09:00 to 17:30, with ticket sales ending at 16:30. In February and March and in October, it is open from 09:00 to 18:00, with ticket sales ending at 17:00.

About 55 Minutes from Jeju Airport, and a 2-Minute Walk from the Maze Land Bus Stop

When traveling by bus, it takes about two minutes to walk from the Maze Land bus stop. From Jeju City, bus 260 connects Jeju Bus Terminal, Songdang Intersection, and Maze Land. From the airport, take bus 111 or 112 to Daecheon-dong Intersection, then transfer to bus 711-1. Buses 211 and 212 also run from Jeju Bus Terminal to Daecheon-dong Intersection, where you can transfer to bus 711-1.

For an eastern mid-mountain itinerary without a rental car, tourist circulation bus 810 connects Maze Land with Bijarim, the entrance to Darangshi Oreum, and Jeju Rail Bike. A one-day pass costs KRW 3,000 for adults, KRW 2,000 for youth, and KRW 1,000 for children. Pass holders are eligible for a 10% discount on admission to Maze Land.

From the Minotaur Video Theater to Early Jigsaw Puzzles from 1883

The indoor Maze Puzzle Museum includes a video theater explaining the origins of mazes through the myth of the Minotaur, a puzzle exhibition room covering European puzzles, the Minotaur Gallery, a puzzle experience area, the Optical Illusion Plaza, and the Maze of Knowledge. It is a good idea to include the indoor exhibits midway through your visit when it is raining or when the outdoor route feels too demanding in the middle of the day.

According to the exhibition information, a Greek red-figure plate is introduced as an artifact dating to around 1500 BCE, while a bull-head drinking cup is presented as an artifact from around 1200–500 BCE. Works by Salvador Dalí featuring the Minotaur are also included. The puzzle exhibition room presents 19th-century American board games and early jigsaw puzzles from 1883, allowing visitors to view the mazes within the broader context of puzzle culture rather than as a simple outdoor activity.

According to information from the Jeju Tourism Organization, strollers and wheelchairs can be rented free of charge. Maze Land received certification as Jeju Special Self-Governing Province’s first disability-friendly facility in March 2014 and also obtained certification as a standard workplace for people with disabilities in November of the same year.

Pets are allowed, but they cannot enter indoor areas. A carrier or stroller is required, and entry is not permitted with only a leash. Therefore, visitors planning to tour the museum must prepare an appropriate means of transport. Drone filming is not permitted, so plan to take photos and videos only with ordinary mobile phones and cameras.

A Day Route Around Gujwa-eup Linking Bijarim and Darangshi Oreum by Bus 810

Maze Land is located on Bijarim-ro, making it easy to combine with a visit to Bijarim. Tourist circulation bus 810 connects Bijarim as the stop immediately before or after Maze Land, then continues in a loop toward the entrance to Darangshi Oreum, Jeju Rail Bike, Yongnuni Oreum, and Daecheon Transfer Center.

Inside the park, you can view the scenery of Dot Oreum from the Sky Road Observatory. Information from the Jeju Tourism Organization also introduces the landscape surrounded by Darangshi and Dot Oreum. For seasonal flowers, the park lists rapeseed flowers, tulips, roses, and lupines in spring; zinnias and marigolds in summer; Japanese asters, pink muhly, and cosmos in autumn; and camellias in winter. Blooming periods may vary depending on the weather.
