Jeju Hamdeok Seawater Bathing Beach 계절 봄 가을

Hamdeok Beach is open 24 hours a day, year-round, but the most recommended time to visit is from late spring to early autumn. During this period, the weather is relatively mild and it is pleasant to enjoy the sea.

The most comfortable time of day is early morning or around sunset. It is less hot than midday and the sun is not as strong, making it ideal for a stroll or relaxing on the beach. Usually, a stay of about 3 to 5 hours is sufficient.

If you want to avoid crowds, visiting on a weekday is best. On weekends and public holidays, there can be many visitors, so it may be relatively busy. For a quieter atmosphere, Monday through Thursday mornings are recommended.

How Long to Stay

If you are only taking photos and having a short beach walk, about 1 hour is enough at Hamdeok Beach. If you want to enjoy the sea and walk and rest at a relaxed pace, 3 to 5 hours is usually appropriate. If you also plan to walk up Seoubong or visit nearby cafes and eat, it is best to set aside about half a day.

How to Get There

Subway
There is no subway in Jeju. Foreign travelers usually take a bus from Jeju International Airport to Hamdeok Beach.

Bus
After arriving at Jeju International Airport and leaving the airport, do not cross the crosswalk; instead, go directly to the bus boarding area in front. From there, take Bus No. 101.

The disembarkation stop is Hamdeok Transfer Stop (Hamdeok Beach) [North]. After getting off at the stop, cross the road in front and you will arrive at Hamdeok Beach right away.

Walking
From Hamdeok Transfer Stop (Hamdeok Beach) [North], the beach is very close on foot. After getting off the bus, simply cross the road and the beach entrance is right there.

Note
There are no exit numbers. Since Jeju has no subway stations, please check the airport bus boarding area and the bus stop name instead of station names or exit numbers.

Photo Spots

  • Mid-slope of Seoubong: If you climb Seoubong, right next to Hamdeok Beach, for about 10 to 20 minutes, there is a viewpoint overlooking the sea and the beach. If you shoot facing the beach side (southeast), you can capture the emerald sea and coastline in one frame. Morning to early afternoon provides good light, and the sea color appears most vivid.
  • Seoubong sunflower field (summer): If you frame the composition toward the sea from the sunflower planting area on the mid-slope of Seoubong, it is a great way to capture scenery that feels distinctly like Jeju. Mid-summer mornings are the brightest and colors appear clearest.
  • Lawn plaza: At the lawn plaza near the beach, you can take photos comfortably with little movement. If you stand facing the sea, the wide white sand and clear water color will show well. A morning visit is best.
  • Around the beach promenade: While walking along the beach, take photos at open spots so that the horizon and the beach are both visible. Because Hamdeok faces east, the sea color is especially beautiful in the morning.

Night View

At night, Hamdeok Beach is better for enjoying the lighting and beach atmosphere than the seascape itself. The beach area has nighttime lighting using LEDs and lasers, making it pleasant for a summer evening walk.

Some shops under the lights stay open in the evening, making it easy to browse casually, and overall the place has a bright, romantic mood. In particular, if you visit from after sunset until around 9 to 10 p.m., the lighting is at its best, and it is not too late, so access to the surrounding area is convenient.

During the summer beach season, the nighttime lighting is operated in line with the opening period, making the beach itself feel like a nighttime attraction. It is recommended for travelers who want a quiet night walk or photo taking.

Seasonal Guide

Spring
Hamdeok Beach and the Seoubong area are well suited for spring walks. In particular, the Seoubong trail is popular as a photo spot because it offers sea views along with cherry blossoms and canola flowers. The mild weather makes it suitable for beach walks and light trekking.

Summer (June to August)
This is the most popular season at Hamdeok Beach. Thanks to the clear emerald sea and fine white sand, it is great for swimming, sunbathing, and relaxing on the beach. UV levels are strong during the day, so it is advisable to prepare a hat, sunscreen, and water.

Autumn
In autumn, it is nice to enjoy the beach and Seoubong together in a relatively quiet atmosphere. The cool weather makes coastal walks, viewpoint viewing, and photography comfortable. It is a good time to experience Jeju's clear skies and gentle breeze.

Winter
Hamdeok in winter has a quieter and calmer charm than in summer. It is good for beach walks and sea viewing, but the wind can be strong, so warm outerwear is needed. In some areas, winter lights or seasonal decorations are added, allowing you to enjoy the evening atmosphere.

Travel Tip
If you want the liveliest beach atmosphere, visit in summer; if you want flowers and walks, visit in spring; if you want a relaxed landscape and walking, autumn and winter are good choices. If you include Seoubong in your itinerary, you can enjoy Hamdeok's natural scenery even more.
