Water activities from 10:00 to 19:00, June 24 to September 6, 2026
Jeju’s 12 designated beaches will operate for 75 days, from June 24 to September 6, 2026. Hamdeok Beach is included in this period, and its regular water-activity hours are 10:00–19:00 every day. Unlike Iho Tewoo and Hyeopjae, Hamdeok is not included among the beaches with extended nighttime hours, so if swimming is your main purpose, it is safer to plan the main part of your schedule before 7:00 p.m.
Access to the beach itself and admission are free, and no regular closing day has been separately announced. However, the operating period may change each year, and the swimming zone, weather advisories, and safety controls may vary on the day of your visit. Hamdeok operates as a pet beach, with leashes limited to 2 m
In 2026, Hamdeok Beach will again operate as a “pet beach,” a beach specializing in water activities with companion animals. The official Jeju tourism guide provides admission information for small, medium-sized, and large dogs. In accordance with the Animal Protection Act, leashes or harness leads must be kept within 2 m, and visitors must bring waste bags.
If you are visiting with a dog, you should separately consider the midday temperature of the sand and the level of crowding. In particular, during the midsummer hours within the 10:00–19:00 operating period, paw protection and drinking water are necessary. This does not mean that every area of the beach is equally suitable for dogs, so on-site boundary markers and the instructions of safety personnel should take priority.
Take buses 101 or 325 from Jeju Airport, then go from the Hamdeok stop to the beach
If you are traveling without a rental car, you can check express bus 101 or local bus 325 toward eastern Jeju from Jeju Airport. The Jeju Bus Information System’s route 325 connects Jeju International Airport with Hamdeok Beach. As of 2026, the first bus from Sarabong is listed as departing at 05:55, the last bus at 21:20, with intervals of 25–60 minutes.
Bus 101 is known as an express route that stops at the Hamdeok Transfer Stop (Hamdeok Beach), and some traveler transportation guides state that the journey from the airport to Hamdeok takes approximately 53 minutes. Since bus timetables and stop locations may change, it is best to reconfirm them through the Jeju Bus Information System just before departure. Facilities near the beach include a public parking lot, restrooms, convenience stores, drinking-water stations, directional and information facilities, and warning and evacuation facilities.
Parasols ₩20,000 and raised platforms ₩30,000: summer costs separate from free admission
In 2026, Jeju Province standardized parasol rentals at ₩20,000 and raised-platform rentals at ₩30,000 at its 12 designated beaches. These fees are separate from beach admission. Admission to Hamdeok Beach is free, but if you plan to rent shade and seating on-site, you should set aside a separate budget based on the number of people and the length of your stay.
If your only purpose is swimming, one to two hours is sufficient. Combining a beach walk with meals and a café visit takes about three to four hours, while adding the Seoubong perimeter trail makes a half-day itinerary appropriate. A public parking lot is listed, but no official fee information has been confirmed, so it is more accurate to leave the parking fee unspecified. On peak-season weekends, public transportation or a combination with walking may be more advantageous than parking close to the beach.
Sea views from 109 m Seoubong and the two faces of Registered Cultural Heritage No. 309
Seoubong, east of Hamdeok Beach, is an oreum, or volcanic cone, described as approximately 109 m high. Climbing Seoubong from the beach provides views of Hamdeok’s sea, Hallasan, and the oreums of eastern Jeju, making it a walking route for understanding the landscape after water activities. Since a short trip to the summit and a leisurely walk around the perimeter trail require very different levels of fitness, it is advisable to bring walking shoes and water.
Seoubong is not merely a scenic location. Tunnel fortifications remain from the Pacific War period, when the Japanese military built them as special-attack bases targeting Allied fleets, and the site was designated Registered Cultural Heritage No. 309 on December 4, 2006. Records indicate that 19–23 tunnel fortifications are distributed at regular intervals beneath the northeastern coastal cliffs. Some have collapsed or are at risk of collapse, so the general rule is to follow designated paths and information signs rather than enter the interiors.
Preparation varies depending on whether you only visit the beach or also walk to Seoubong
Visitors using strollers or wheelchairs are better off planning their itinerary around flat facilities near the beach, such as directional and information facilities and restrooms. In contrast, the Seoubong walking trails and the area around the tunnel fortifications may combine inclines, dirt paths, stairs, and coastal cliff terrain, so the same level of accessibility should not be expected. The regular availability of foreign-language information has not been officially confirmed.
For a first visit, the simplest route is to use the beach and water-activity zone in the morning, then view the coast and oreum together from the trail beneath Seoubong in the afternoon. If swimming is your priority, finish within the official operating hours of 10:00–19:00, check the wind, wave conditions, and safety controls with the General Situation Room at 064-728-3989, and then switch to your Seoubong itinerary.
