The Living History of Sudoguksan Daldongne, Opened in 2005
Sudoguksan Daldongne Museum is a hands-on specialized museum themed around the everyday lives of ordinary residents of hillside neighborhoods in the 1960s and 1970s. It opened on October 25, 2005, with the ordinary lives and daily routines of the residents of the historically existing Sudoguksan Daldongne as its central theme.
The origins of Sudoguksan Daldongne date back to around 1908, when the Songhyeon drainage reservoir was built. It later flourished as a living space for migrants through the Korean War and the industrialization of the 1960s and 1970s, but disappeared due to urban redevelopment in the late 2000s. Built on the former site, the museum presents the appearance of the vanished residential neighborhood in connection with Korea’s modern and contemporary history.
Exhibition Scope Following the Reopening on March 1, 2026
The museum underwent expansion work beginning in October 2023 and reopened on March 1, 2026. Visitors can now explore exhibition rooms from basement level 1 through above-ground level 2, so this is not a facility where visitors see only one floor and leave.
The facilities include Permanent Exhibition Room 1, Permanent Exhibition Room 2, the Special Exhibition Room, and the Children’s Exhibition Room. The building area is 2,039.06㎡, the total floor area is 3,640.78㎡, and the exhibition area is 1,312.00㎡. Based on external place information, the expected visiting time is approximately 90 minutes.
Free Admission Starting at 10:00 on Tuesdays
As of August 26, 2026, operating hours are 10:00–18:00 from Tuesday through Sunday, with final admission up to 30 minutes before closing. The museum is closed every Monday, January 1, Lunar New Year’s Day, and the day of Chuseok.
Admission to the general exhibitions is free for all visitors. However, the traditional school-uniform experience is limited to 16 people per session and costs 3,000 won, while rental of exhibition audio-guide devices is limited to 30 people per session and costs 3,000 won. A 400-Meter Uphill Walk Behind Dongincheon Station Exit 4
Foreign travelers arriving by train should get off at Dongincheon Station on Incheon Line 1 and leave through Exit 4. According to the official directions, the museum is a 10-minute walk away. From Dongincheon Station’s North Plaza, proceed to the entrance of Songhyeon Market, then enter the alley between Paris Baguette and Incheon General Animal Hospital and walk approximately 400 meters uphill.
When taking the bus, get off at the Mirim Theater bus stop for a 7-minute walk. Trunk routes 12, 21, and 72 and branch route 506 stop there. The Jemulpo-gu Youth Training Center bus stop is also a 7-minute walk from the museum, and can be reached by trunk routes 2, 10, 12, 16, 21, 62, and 72 or branch route 506.
Sessions for 150 Visitors and 30-Minute Reservations for the Children’s Exhibition Room
Each exhibition session is limited to 150 visitors. Both advance reservations through the museum website and on-site ticketing are available, so if you need to visit at a specific time, booking through the website is the safer option. Advance reservation holders who do not enter within 15 minutes after the session begins are considered no-shows, and their reservations are automatically canceled; those tickets are then converted to on-site ticket inventory.
Unlike the general exhibition, the Children’s Exhibition Room requires a separate reservation. Each session accommodates 50 visitors for 30 minutes, with 35 places allocated to advance website reservations and 15 to on-site tickets. Admission is restricted during the lunch period from 12:00 to 13:00.
A Visiting Policy That Prohibits Touching Exhibits Outside the Hands-On Areas
Although this museum focuses on hands-on experiences, the entire exhibition area is not an unrestricted interactive space. Visitors are prohibited from entering exhibition areas outside those designated for visitor participation and touching the exhibits. Even when taking part in the traditional school-uniform experience, visitors must stay within the designated experience area.
Visitors may not speak loudly or make phone calls in the exhibition rooms, and drinking alcohol, smoking, and bringing in or consuming food and beverages are also prohibited. Photography using lighting without permission from the relevant officials is restricted, so visitors planning to use a flash or lighting equipment should make arrangements differently from those for ordinary sightseeing.
Songhyeon Neighborhood Park Public Parking Lot and Step-Free Routes
Visitors arriving by car can use the Songhyeon Neighborhood Park public parking lot. It has 101 regular spaces, 1 medium-sized bus space, and 2 large bus spaces, including 6 spaces reserved for visitors with transportation difficulties. Parking fees apply from August 1, 2026: the first hour is free, after which the charge is 400 won for every additional 30 minutes following the initial 30-minute period, and the daily rate is 4,000 won.
From the parking lot, visitors can travel by elevator from basement level 2 to above-ground level 1, and wheelchairs and strollers can be used from the parking lot to the museum entrance. Elevators serve all exhibition floors, from basement level 1 through above-ground level 2, and wheelchairs and strollers can be used on every floor. Five manual wheelchairs are available, two wheelchairs can be rented, and there is one accessible restroom each for men and women.
