Yongin Korean Folk Village, Expanded to 300,000 Pyeong Since Opening in 1974

The Korean Folk Village is a traditional culture theme park that began construction in 1973 and opened on October 3, 1974. From the 1972 Advisory Committee to the Opening on October 3, 1974

The Korean Folk Village was established in the 1970s, when industrialization and urbanization were advancing rapidly, with the aim of preserving folk culture and introducing traditional culture. According to materials from the National Archives of Korea, the Korean Folk Village Construction Advisory Committee was formed in 1972, and the plan to attract private investment was approved in 1973. Construction began on August 5, 1973, and the village opened on October 3, 1974.

At the time of its opening, around 30 traditional houses were relocated and restored on a site of approximately 660,000 m². The site later expanded through the 1976 expansion project, the construction of the Korean Folk Village Museum and Traditional Folk Hall in 1996, and the creation of an amusement park in 1997. According to the current official introduction, there are more than 270 exhibition buildings, 9 workshops, and over 20,000 traditional household tools.

The Setting of a Joseon Rural Village Shaped by Jigwaecheon and 13,223 m² of Cultivated Land

The Korean Folk Village was created in a wooded basin in Bora-dong, Giheung-gu, with Jigwaecheon Stream running through its center. Materials from the Academy of Korean Studies explain that the waterside and grasslands create the setting for traditional agricultural culture. The official area is approximately 300,000 pyeong, and the building area is 29,000 m².

The agricultural landscape of the folk village is not merely a backdrop. According to official materials, the cultivated area covers 13,223 m² and includes more than 100 traditional crops and around 30 types of medicinal herbs. If you follow an itinerary that focuses only on quickly viewing the exhibition houses, it is easy to miss the seasonal changes and cultivated fields in this area, so it is better to set aside separate time for a walk through the folk village.

A Day Planned from the 12:00 Samdo Panggut to the 17:00 Pungryu Hanmadang

The official performance page lists Samdo Panggut daily at 12:00, Baeknyeon Gayak daily at 14:00, Uri Garak Joeulssigo daily at 16:30, and Pungryu Hanmadang daily at 17:00. Minjokchon Walks to the Sound is held daily at 12:30 and 15:00, while Pungmul Han Garak is held at 16:00 from Monday to Thursday and at 15:30 on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.

Performances may change depending on operating conditions. In particular, the official notices include an August 2026 operating-hours announcement and a late-night return-home notice posted on July 30, so it is necessary to check both the official notices and the performance page before the visit. For a performance-focused itinerary, enter around 11:00 and connect the 12:00 Samdo Panggut, 14:00 Baeknyeon Gayak, and 16:30–17:00 performances.

Workshop Street in Folk Village Buildings 24–27 and the Onggi Living Hall in Building 53

Workshop Street is located in Folk Village Buildings 24, 25, 26, and 27, and 9 workshops, including blacksmithing, onggi pottery, bamboo ware, and wooden ware workshops, are in operation. Traditional lifestyle experiences are offered in Folk Village Buildings 11, 12, 28, 31, 39, 44, and 60, while the Onggi Living Hall in Building 53 is open for viewing during the same hours as the operating hours.

The Traditional Folk Hall is in Building 34 and has 7 exhibition halls, an area of 1,100 m², and around 860 cultural heritage items. The World Folk Museum is in Building 22 and has 9 exhibition halls, an area of 1,700 m², and 3,000 cultural heritage items. The Onggi Exhibition Hall displays around 700 items in an area of 480 m². Natural dyeing experiences are available from 13:00 to 17:00 on weekends and public holidays and are not offered during the winter season.

Transferring to Bus 37 or 10-5 from Exit 3 of Sanggal Station

The address is 90 Minsokchon-ro, Giheung-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, Korean Folk Village, and the main telephone number is 031-288-0000. There is no direct subway access to the main gate; the nearest station is Sanggal Station on the Suin–Bundang Line. From Exit 3 of Sanggal Station, transfer to Bus 37 or 10-5 and get off at the Korean Folk Village, Bora Hyosung Harrington, or Samjeong Apartments stop.

From Suwon Station, transfer to Bus 37 or 10-5 near Exit 4. From Jukjeon Station, the official information recommends taking Bus 30 from the Shinsegae Department Store Front stop. From Seoul, direct buses include Route 5001-1 from Sinnonhyeon Station, Route 1560 from Gangnam Station, and Route 4101 from Seoul Station. From Incheon Airport, Route A8877 travels to the Korean Folk Village via Gwanggyo Jungang Station, Heungdeok District, and Singal Intersection.

2,000-Won Compact-Car Parking and Rental and Storage Facilities in Shopping Village Building 3

For cars, enter “Korean Folk Village” or the road-name address into your navigation system. The official parking fees are 2,000 won for compact vehicles and 3,000 won for large vehicles, while registered vehicles for visitors with disabilities receive a 50% discount. Public tourism data lists the parking capacity as 2,800 vehicles, but entry and exit times may vary on event days and weekends.

Strollers and wheelchairs can be rented at Shopping Village Building 3, which also has a nursing room, AED, medical room, and luggage storage lockers. The tourist information center in Shopping Village Building 4 next to the main gate operates from 09:00 to 17:00 and is closed on Sundays and Mondays. An electric-vehicle charging station is available in the parking lot, but according to the official information, it operates on weekdays and is closed on weekends.

Conditions for the 19,000-Won 4 p.m. and 17,000-Won 6 p.m. Night Tickets

Admission prices vary depending on the season, events, and discount conditions, making it difficult to state a fixed price for a regular all-day ticket. The evening 4 p.m. ticket shown on the official ticket page allows entry from 16:00 every day and costs 19,000 won, while the evening 6 p.m. ticket allows entry from 18:00 every day and costs 17,000 won. Both products are listed on the page as available for use from August 1.

The official operating page states that operating hours may change flexibly depending on the season and weather. Therefore, do not assume a fixed closing day; check the operating hours for the relevant month in the official website notices before visiting.
