How 1,170 m of Jungang-ro Underground Connects Daejeon's Old Downtown
Daejeon Jungang-ro Underground Shopping Center is an underground shopping center built beneath Jungang-ro, connecting the former Chungnam Provincial Government Office and Daejeon Station. The Daejeon Tourism Organization introduces it as a shopping area extending from in front of the Daejeon Modern and Contemporary History Exhibition Hall, past the vicinity of Mokcheokgyo Bridge, to Daejeon Station, and it remains open as of July 2025.
A report from September 2019 described the shopping center as 1,170 m long. As a central commercial area in the old downtown connected to Daejeon Metro Line 1 and various bus routes, it is a practical passage for travelers who want to move around Jungang-ro without crossing the surface roads several times.

Stores to Look for First in the A, B, and C Sections
The Daejeon Tourism Organization divides Jungang-ro Underground Shopping Center into three sections and introduces stores selling clothing, bags, shoes, fashion accessories, eyewear, jewelry, cosmetics, repair services, used books, and mobile phones. In addition to cafés, restaurants, and bakeries, there are also Daiso and Olive Young stores, making it convenient to shop for specific items or have a quick meal.
The 2026 official website's store classification lists 151 women's clothing stores, 29 men's clothing stores, 12 children's clothing stores, 13 shoe stores, 7 jewelry and gemstone stores, 28 fashion goods and accessory stores, and 24 mobile phone and accessory stores. Fortune-telling and tarot-related stores are also listed as 50, so travelers who enter expecting only clothing shops may find that the types of businesses vary by section.

An Entrance That Helps You Find the Underground Shopping Center from Jungangno Station
Daejeon Metro Line 1's Jungangno Station is connected to the shopping center. For international travelers departing from Daejeon Station, the simplest approach is to take Metro Line 1 to Jungangno Station and then find the underground connecting passage, but the exact shopping-center connection points and exit numbers for each Jungangno Station exit have not been specified in the official shopping-center guide.
Exit 6 of Jungangno Station connects directly to NC Department Store. The shopping center's address is 145 Jungang-ro Underground, Jung-gu, Daejeon, postal code 34838, while the store location provided by the user is Daejeon Jungang-ro Underground Shopping Center C-ga 11, 145 Jungang-ro, Jung-gu, Daejeon. Bus route numbers, service intervals, and exact routes from each station exit were not included in the verified information.

From 10:00 to 21:00, Though Individual Store Hours May Differ
The official listed business hours for Jungang-ro Underground Shopping Center are 10:00–21:00. However, the official website states that business hours differ by store, so if you have a particular shop in mind, it is best not to plan a late visit based only on the shopping center's overall operating hours.
This is an underground shopping center that can be entered without a separate admission fee, and the customer service center telephone number is 042-252-2064. Customer service hours are 09:00–18:00 on weekdays; it is closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. Regular annual closure dates are announced separately, and the official website has posted the 2026 regular closure notice; September 25, the day of Chuseok, is marked as an optional store closure day.
Underground Parking on the Former Chungnam Provincial Government Office Side and the Two-Hour Free-Parking Condition
If you are traveling by car, the shopping center's underground parking lot is beneath the former Chungnam Provincial Government Office side. The parking inquiry telephone number is 042-226-3366, and the Jungang-ro Underground Shopping Center parking lot and Uridul Park parking lot offer up to two hours of free parking for customers who make purchases.
After purchasing an item, you must receive a free-parking ticket from the store; one ticket provides one free hour, and two tickets provide two free hours. A maximum of two tickets may be used once per day for same-day purchases, and parking is charged after two hours. Parking fees are 900 won for the first 30 minutes, 300 won for each additional 10-minute unit, and 15,000 won for prepaid daily parking; the free grace period for re-entry is 10 minutes.

Card Conditions Foreign Visitors Should Especially Know When Paying for Parking
The parking lot operates from 06:00 to 23:00. If you leave more than 30 minutes after using the prepayment machine, an additional fee may be charged, so if you plan to spend a long time above ground after paying, it is best not to delay exiting.
Only card payments are accepted in the parking lot; cash payments are not accepted. Whether individual shopping-center stores accept cash has not been confirmed, so travelers carrying only cash should also prepare a card or another payment method. The recommended viewing time for the shopping center as a whole and whether photography inside is prohibited have also not been confirmed.
Between the Fountain and Benches, an Old-Downtown Route Sheltered from the Weather
The main passage of Jungang-ro Underground Shopping Center is an indoor route where you can walk while avoiding the summer heat and winter snow and rain. There are fountains and benches at intervals where you can sit and rest during shopping, but detailed information about elevators and ramps for wheelchairs and strollers, as well as restrooms, has not been confirmed.
It has also not been confirmed whether English assistance or audio guides are available. Therefore, a practical approach is to save Korean store names and section labels on your phone and check the name or category of the store you are looking for on the official website in advance. At the entrance, you should also first consider that business hours and optional store closures may vary by store.

From Jungangno Station Exit 2 to Sungsimdang and the 214 m LED Sky Road
If you are also looking for bread, Sungsimdang's main branch is a two- to three-minute walk from Jungangno Station Exit 2. After shopping, if you emerge onto Euneungjeongi Cultural Street, you will find the 214 m-long LED Sky Road, which the Daejeon Tourism Organization introduces as a street where video shows are held at night.
It takes approximately 20–25 minutes on foot from Jungangno Station to Daejeon Hanwha Life Ballpark. There are many traditional restaurants around Jungang-ro serving dishes such as kalguksu and dubu duruchigi, and reports also say that performances, concerts, exhibitions, and fan-signing events were held there in the past. However, regular schedules for events and performances have not been confirmed, so it is more accurate to view them as an optional way to combine the shopping center with the surrounding streets rather than as essential activities for a visit.
