概覽
Buyeo Gungnamji is a pond from the Baekje period located in Buyeo-eup, Buyeo-gun, Chungcheongnam-do. It is known as an artificial pond associated with the detached palace of the Sabi period. According to the 《Samguk Sagi》, it was created south of the palace in 634, the 35th year of King Mu of Baekje, and was given the name “Gungnamji.” Set within Buyeo’s historic landscape near the lower reaches of the Geumgang River, it is a great place to feel the atmosphere of Baekje’s royal capital culture. Because it allows visitors to understand both Korea’s ancient garden culture and Baekje’s heritage, it is especially worthwhile for overseas travelers interested in history and culture.

最佳遊覽時間
Buyeo Gungnamji has a different atmosphere in every season, but the best time to visit is autumn, when the weather is cool and comfortable for walking. For overseas travelers in particular, the weather is stable and walking is not burdensome, making it the safest choice.
The best time to visit is early on a weekday morning or in the late afternoon. Crowds tend to increase on weekends, and especially between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m., and 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. If you want a quiet visit, it is best to avoid those times.
In terms of crowd levels, weekdays are relatively quiet, while weekends have more visitors but the space is wide enough that it does not feel overly cramped. For length of stay, planning for about 20 to 40 minutes is efficient.
In short, weekday mornings in autumn are the most recommended visiting time.
建議遊覽時長
Gungnamji is not very large and admission is free, so if you are just taking a light look around the pond and walking paths, 30 to 45 minutes is enough. If you include photography and a leisurely stroll, about 1 to 1.5 hours is appropriate, and if you plan to see other sights in downtown Buyeo as well, half a day is a good estimate.
交通指南
Buyeo Gungnamji cannot be reached directly by subway, so visitors usually travel by express/intercity bus + on foot. For overseas travelers, this is the simplest method.
Subway
Buyeo does not have a subway station. If you are departing from Seoul, the most convenient way is to take the subway to Nambu Terminal Station, then take an intercity bus to Buyeo from Nambu Intercity Bus Terminal.
- Nearest station: Nambu Terminal Station (Seoul Metro Line 3)
- Exit: From the station, exit toward Exit 5 to easily reach Nambu Intercity Bus Terminal.
Bus
From Seoul, use the bus from Nambu Intercity Bus Terminal to Buyeo Intercity Bus Terminal. After arriving in Buyeo, Gungnamji is very close.
- Departure: Nambu Intercity Bus Terminal
- Arrival: Buyeo Intercity Bus Terminal
- Local bus: City buses are available, but service is not very frequent, so if you do not have much luggage, walking is more practical.
On Foot
From Buyeo Intercity Bus Terminal to Gungnamji it takes about 13 to 20 minutes on foot. It is relatively close, so even first-time visitors can get there easily.
- Address: 52 Gungnam-ro, Buyeo-eup, Buyeo-gun, Chungcheongnam-do
- Walking tip: Search for “Gungnamji” or “Seodong Park” in a map app to find it easily.
拍照地點
- Full view of Poryongjeong: Find a spot on the lakeside walking path where the octagonal pavilion Poryongjeong in the center of the pond is visible straight ahead. If you shoot directly toward the pavilion, it will look as if it is floating on the water. Early morning or around sunset is the most atmospheric time.
- Capturing lotus flowers and the pavilion together: In summer, try framing the shot so that Poryongjeong is visible beyond the lotus flowers by the pond. If you place the camera toward the center of the pond, you can capture Gungnamji’s signature scenery in one frame. The light in the morning is soft and makes the colors look beautiful.
- Around the romantic photo zone: The photo zones set up around the garden and pond are great for travel photos. Standing in the photo zone with the pond or garden as the background creates a clean souvenir shot. Late afternoon is less crowded and the photos come out softer.
- Side view from the walking path: While walking along the pond, take photos in the section where the pavilion and the water surface appear together in a long view. Shooting along the pond diagonally makes the scenery look wider. On a clear afternoon, the reflections are vivid and the photos are especially good.
夜景
Buyeo Gungnamji is especially beautiful at night and is a famous night-view spot. Lights shine on the pond and the pavilion in the center, and the reflections on the water are very impressive. It is a great place to enjoy a calm and romantic walk together with the atmosphere of Baekje.
At night, the landscape is enhanced with LED lighting and hologram-based scenery effects, creating an even more dazzling atmosphere during certain seasons or festival periods. In particular, when the themed lighting called “Gungnamji Light Feast” is operating, it is also very popular as a photography spot.
The recommended visiting time is from after sunset until around 9 p.m. Visiting before it gets too late lets you see the lights best and makes walking easier as well. The atmosphere is especially good on summer evenings.
Admission is free and the parking area is fairly spacious, so evening visits are relatively convenient. Special night events or media art programs may be offered for a limited period, so checking the Buyeo-gun tourism information schedule before visiting is recommended.
四季指南
Gungnamji is worth visiting in all four seasons, but the atmosphere changes greatly depending on the time of year. Overseas travelers are advised to choose a walking time that matches their visiting season.
- Spring: During cherry blossom season, the scenery around the pond and walking paths is at its most romantic. It is especially good for photography because you can enjoy flowers and waterside scenery together.
- Summer: This is the highlight season of Gungnamji. Usually around July, white lotus, red lotus, and water lilies bloom in abundance, making the entire pond look spectacular. Mornings or around sunset are relatively cooler and more comfortable for walking.
- Autumn: The cool weather makes it a great season for relaxed walking. When the surrounding trees begin to change color, you can enjoy the scenery in a calm atmosphere.
- Winter: There are relatively fewer visitors, so it is good for a quiet visit. If you want to enjoy the night lights or winter atmosphere, consider visiting in the evening.
Gungnamji is open 24 hours a day, year-round, so in summer the early morning or evening is best; in spring and autumn, daytime walks are ideal; and in winter, visiting around sunset is most practical.
