Best Time to Visit

Yeosu Expo Ocean Park is best visited from spring through fall. In winter, some facilities may not be operating, so April to October is recommended for a more comfortable visit.

Within the day, late afternoon to early evening is the best time. It is less hot than during the daytime, and you can enjoy both a walk in the park and the seaside atmosphere nearby.

As for weekdays, Tuesday through Thursday tend to be the quietest. On weekends and public holidays, the number of visitors increases, so it can get somewhat crowded.

In short, a late afternoon visit on a weekday in spring or fall is the most pleasant. The park is open year-round, but operating hours may vary by facility, so it is best to check before visiting.

How Long to Stay

If you are just taking a light look around Expo Ocean Park, 30 minutes to 1 hour is enough. If you want to enjoy a leisurely walk and nearby sights as well, about 1 to 2 hours is appropriate. If you plan to visit nearby attractions such as Odongdo, Jinnamgwan, Gyodong Market, and Dolsan Bridge, it is practical to set aside about half a day.

How to Get There

The address of Yeosu Expo Ocean Park is 1 Bangeomhoe-gil, Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do. For international travelers, it is easiest to travel based on Yeosu Expo Station.

Rail / Subway Connection

Yeosu does not have an urban rail or subway system. Instead, take the KTX or a regular train to Yeosu Expo Station, which is the most convenient option. From the station to the park, it is about a 10-minute walk. After leaving the station, follow the signs toward Bangeomhoe-gil. There is no separate exit number.

Bus

When coming from Yeosu Airport, take city buses 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, or 330 from Sangok Stop (toward Majon) across from the airport, get off at Dong Elementary School Bus Stop, and then walk for about 13 minutes.

Alternatively, from the airport you can take the airport bus toward Yeosu and get off in front of the Intercity Bus Terminal, then transfer by taxi or city bus.

On Foot

If you start from Yeosu Expo Station, it is the simplest route. Walk straight from the station toward Bangeomhoe-gil and you can easily reach the park entrance. If you do not have much luggage, walking is the most practical option.

Photo Spots

  • Hamel Lighthouse: Move from Yeosu Expo Ocean Park toward the sea and take photos from the deck around the lighthouse. It is best to position the camera toward the southeast so that both the sea and the lighthouse are visible. Right after sunrise to morning offers soft light, and around sunset the colors of the lighthouse and the sea look especially beautiful.
  • Expo Ocean Park coastal promenade: Walk along the park's seaside deck and look for spots where the ocean opens up widely. For portrait photos, it is best to stand with the sea as your backdrop and face west or south rather than turning your back to the sea. Late morning brings vivid sea colors, and around sunset it is easy to get warm-toned photos.
  • Area around the Odongdo cruise ship boarding point: Before or after boarding the cruise, use points near the pier where the coastline stretches out in view. When shooting, facing east or southeast so that the coastline continues into the frame creates a stronger sense of depth. Clear daytime hours are the sharpest, and it is a great time to capture dynamic scenes as boats come in.
  • Coastal section from Hamel Lighthouse toward Yi Sun-sin Square: This is a stretch of coastline accessible from the park and full of photo spots. Try shooting facing west with your view opening toward the square so that the sea and promenade are both in the frame. From the late afternoon, the light becomes more stable, and just before night view begins is also good for atmospheric photos.
  • Seaside view toward Jongpo Marine Park: If you want to capture both the sea and the city atmosphere, this area is ideal. Place a person in the foreground and shoot toward the northwest so that the cityscape appears beyond the sea. During the blue hour, the sea and the lights come alive together, making it especially suitable for travel photos.
  • Near the Yeosu Romantic Pocha Street: Recommended if you want nighttime travel photos. Move toward the pocha street, include the glow of the signs and the sea together, and shoot in the direction where the lights continue. The best time is after sunset to evening, and visiting a little earlier in the evening, when it is not too crowded, makes shooting easier.

Night View

South Jeolla, Yeosu Expo Ocean Park: Night View

At night, Yeosu Expo Ocean Park becomes even more charming as the dazzling lights blend with the sea view. In particular, the Yeosu Sky Tower stands out with its bright and distinctive nighttime illumination and is considered a more impressive photo spot at night than during the day.

Throughout the park area, colorful lights illuminate the sea and the promenade, creating a relaxed and romantic atmosphere. The sound of the harbor along with the sea breeze adds to the experience, making it a great place to enjoy Yeosu's unique nighttime seaside mood.

The recommended time is from just after sunset until around 9 p.m. This is when the lights look most beautiful, and it is ideal for both photography and walking.

If you want a wider view of the night scenery, you can also take a night city tour. It generally departs daily at 19:30 and visits major nighttime attractions including Expo Ocean Park and the Odongdo area. Some routes may be replaced by Jongpo Marine Park depending on operating conditions.

Seasonal Guide

South Jeolla, Yeosu Expo Ocean Park: Cherry Blossoms and Fall Foliage

Yeosu Expo Ocean Park changes in atmosphere with each season, so you can enjoy different charms depending on when you visit.

In spring, it is nice to walk while enjoying cherry blossoms around the nearby promenade and coastal areas. The mild weather makes it the most comfortable season for park walks, visiting Sky Tower, and taking in the sea view.

In summer, the seaside scenery is at its liveliest, and it is a great time to plan a visit together with the marine cable car. From June to August, try one of Yeosu's signature seasonal dishes, webfoot octopus shabu-shabu, as well. It can be hot and humid during the day, so it is a good idea to prepare a hat, water, and sunscreen.

In fall, the foliage adds to the beauty of the park and the surrounding walking courses. The cool weather makes it ideal for photography and night view enjoyment.

In early winter, there is a period when you can see both autumn leaves and camellia flowers together, which is especially impressive. If you visit Yeosu in early December, you can enjoy the colors blending across the trees and the ground.

On winter nights, the lights and night views stand out. The dazzling nighttime atmosphere of Expo Ocean Park, the Big O Show, and the exhibition spaces using light are all good sights even in winter. The sea breeze can be strong, so bring a thick coat.

For a one-day itinerary, we recommend touring the park facilities, aquarium, and Sky Tower during the day, then enjoying the night view and illuminated spots in the evening.
